Longtime viewers of The Young and The Restless will recall that Adam and Sharon have a long and fraught history with one another. Basically, it has been a codependent relationship mixed with sexual attraction at times that because of its nature made boundaries unclear.

Sharon and Adam were married for a short time, from 2009-2010, but if you look at Sharon’s relationship and marriage history, it looks like she’s had more rebounds than a trampoline! Longtime viewers of The Young and The Restless will recall that she was married to Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) from 1995-2007, and that was her first and longest marriage.

Nick messed that up by cheating on her with Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) but they reunited long enough to conceive Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster). She was married to Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) from 2007-2009, followed by Adam, then Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) in 2012. She married Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton) in 2015 that lasted till 2017 and met Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) not long afterward and married him in 2020! Rebound relationships tend to be a trait of codependent people – in the case of Adam, she’s a fixer and he’s one who had needed to be fixed! But Adam is making a conscious effort to make amends, leave his manipulative and scheming past behind, and part of that is making peace with Sharon.

Viewers of The Young and The Restless know that Adam has made many mistakes, but his coming to the point of acknowledging them has been a huge step for him. Sharon can also see and acknowledge that, and even Rey has begun seeing there is good in Adam, as has Nick. Nick saw it first hand when Adam went to the firehouse in Kansas to send rescuers to get him out of that tornado-ravaged house, where he had been trapped in the basement that served as a storm cellar.

For Rey, it was the fact that Adam had risked his freedom to not only rescue Faith from the truck wreck she was involved in, but also donate one of his kidneys to save her life that made the biggest impression. As for Sharon and Adam, concerning their relationship to one another, they have both come to realize that their bond is unhealthy and will need to keep each other accountable not to return to old habits and “go there”. It sounds like the agreement they will make with each other will be one of setting healthy boundaries.

Sharon should not and cannot be the first person Adam goes to when he has a problem. As for Sharon, she needs to set a boundary that she is not the only one who can help Adam and they need to point out to each other when they start gravitating towards old codependent habits, as well as examine their own motives if they want to relate with each other!
