Newman came into the role only a few months ago after taking over from Richard Burgi who had owned the role but due to COVID-19 restrictions and confusion, was ultimately let go. Robert stepped in and without missing a beat stole the show and fans loved his performance after the first episode.
The Young and The Restless Spoilers – Sadly Robert Newman Is Out At Y&R
He truly came in cold and embodied the character with much more emotion and softness, until the last month when we’ve really gotten to see the ‘Lochness Monster’ persona come out. While Burgi played the character more subtle and mysterious, Newman more or less wore the emotions on his sleeve and let the acting take him where it may. Unfortunately for many viewers, his time has come to an end on the show.
In his clip, he says, “Today, for a moment I just want to talk for a minute to The Young and the Restless fans. I think it’s appropriate now for me to finally be able to say thank you so much for letting me be a part of the legacy of this great show.” He continued to assure us that the scenes of him dying at the hands of Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) were, in fact, real. “Just to clarify, the scenes you saw the other day of Ashland dying at the hands of Nick were, in fact, my last scenes on the show. The end of my contract. Those were shot about five weeks ago.”
There seems to be no mystery now as to if Ashland is really still alive somewhere out there. While this was a nice video for Newman to make and thank everyone, we almost wish he would have waited at least another week. We understand it’s already been five for him, but from our perspective, this just happened and is fresh. At any rate, the news is out. Ashland Locke is deceased and unless they pull another Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) storyline out of their butt, will be the end of the character.
