Instead, Victor said that Billy would cause the company to be lost.

Sure enough, telling Lily he intends to pay out her entire contract accelerates Victor’s plan to take control of Chancellor and install Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas) as its head.

Lily’s comments about Katherine Chancellor (Jess Walton) and Jill assured Nikki that Khalil’s character can be trusted. Lily also said that she would never allow Billy to destroy the company.

As much as he talks about not being a screw-up, Billy repeats that personal flaw. He’s convinced himself that Lily, the woman Jill specifically wanted to keep him in check, is the problem.

Ousting Lily and believing Victor can be shushed away by one conversation is highly naive. The stage is set for Chancellor to be beset by damaging business buzz and the fallout.

Victor does not lose that often. He pegs Billy as no competition and has all the chess pieces aligned to realize a victory shortly.
