Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) has reached the last chapter of her life on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) reference to his mother’s coming end is surely ominous. So too was him telling his sisters that Dina will be returning to the Abbott family home.
After needing to put Dina into a memory care facility, Abbott’s have gathered so that they can spend the final part of their mother’s life with her and each other. One of Y&R’s great storylines in recent years is nearing its endpoint, as real life is skillfully tapped through this concluding storyline.
The Young And The Restless Spoilers – All Hail The Great Marla Adams
Adams is arguably offering the performance of her life as a returned Dina. Hardcore viewers know that she was part of the cast in the 1980s, as John Abbott’s (Jerry Douglas) backstory, along with that of his children, Jack, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) were expanded.
Adams did return to the cast on brief occasions in the 1990s and 2000s. But it wasn’t until Y&R created a storyline in 2017, that this fine actor expanded her own role into an unforgettable series of indelible performances.
Alzheimer’s is one scourge of the modern age. This destructive force has impacted the lives of many across the globe, with the family members and friends of the afflicted suffering along with these poor souls.
Y&R Spoilers – Abbott Children Come To Terms With Their Mother
Each of Dina’s offspring dealt with her having abandoned family obligations decades ago. She left John to care for their three young children, with ‘Jackie’ being the oldest in his teen years.
Ashley suffered the horror in later learning that John wasn’t her father. That understandably served to break her relationship with Dina.
Traci appeared less affected than the others. The younger age of her character, at that time, allowed her to avoid some of the strife Jack and Ashley experienced and seems to have played into Traci being the most upbeat and resilient sibling through the present day.
The Abbott’s, now well into their middle-aged years, have come to terms with who their mother was. Importantly, they’ve also collectively come to value who she is now, with forgiveness and understanding.

The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Appreciating The Full Dina Mergeron
Ignoring, or romanticizing the past isn’t honest. It can’t be said that Abbott’s have done either. Jack, Ashley, and Traci have worked through yesterday.
Dina returned to Genoa City, Wisconsin, to offer contrition, make amends, and to spend whatever time she had left with her family. On all accounts, she’s succeeded.
Now, as Dina faces this last part of life, her children and grandchildren will be there for her. This final chapter projects to be as stellar as the earlier parts of a magnificently nuanced arc.
