According to She Knows Soaps, Davidson revealed that he feared the soap opera is going another direction, leaving Paul off-canvas. He added that at the moment, his character has no scheduled episode to tape or air, and he isn’t sure when the casting director will call him to return.
Soap Stars Came Together For Doug Davidson
Last year, Eric Braeden, the actor who plays Victor Newman, and the3 beloved Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters), campaigned for Doug to return to the CBS daytime drama. They both believed that Paul is a legacy character and should not be left off the show for so long. The seasoned actors criticized the previous showrunner, Mal Young for trying to eradicate Victor, Neil, Doug, Christine Williams (Lauralee Bell), and Jill Abbott (Jess Walton).
Their pestering worked as Davidson returned to Y&R and seemed to have regular part-time work. However, now the actor updated his fans that he may not return as the network has not asked him to return for any other episodes.
“I think they have chosen to go in new directions. There are a lot of moving pieces. I hope they have a concept …,” Doug tweeted. “I have no shows left to air and no dates scheduled. I guess I will let you draw your own conclusions,” the actor continued.
Doug Davidson Has Deep Roots On Y&R
The writers seem confused about how they can write a compelling storyline for Paul. He is the police chief and his wife on the show is a powerful attorney. They could go many ways for the couple, many wouldn’t include being a prop for other characters.
One social media follower on Twitter suggested they give Paul a storyline about adoption since Christine cannot have children after her accident a couple of years ago. It would give them both a storyline and bring awareness to adoption. It could be a win-win for all. However, the show is going in a new direction and currently, many fans are not happy with the way the storylines are playing out.
Let’s hope that Doug Davidson is right, and the writers have a concept on the direction the storyline is headed. If not, we could be looking at another big head writer switch-a-roo.
