The Young And The Restless Spoilers – A Milestone Anniversary

Davidson has been playing Y&R’s Ashley Abbott off and on since 1982, leaving the soap several times along the way. While both Brenda Epperson and Shari Shattuck have also played the part, Davidson is the actress most fans identify with the character. While both Maitland and Davidson now only appear on a recurring basis, the actress still looks back at her days playing this legendary character with a smile.

She is especially proud of being in a certain big triangle where it was hard to know who to even root for. “It was an important storyline for sure. Bill Bell [Y&R’s late creator/senior executive producer/head writer] was just a genius and he wrote the character of Ashley in that viewers were cheering for Victor and Ashley, too,” Davidson told Soap Hub. “It was iconic for the show. It’s important to have strong triangles on shows. It made the cover of TV Guide so that was kind of cool.”

Victor and Ashley even share a child, Abby Newman Chancellor, but that is not a result of their marriage, only the time Ashley stole some of Victor’s sperm.

Y&R Spoilers – Eileen Davidson’s Most Important Story

Through the years, Davidson has seen her character through many dramatic stories, including an abortion story and mental illness. Still, when Ashley suffered from cancer is a time Davidson will never forget.

“There was talk of me shaving my head and I said I don’t have a problem doing that as long as you’re going to keep writing the story,” the actress told Soap Hub. “If you pivot off of the story next week and I don’t have any hair, I’m going to be mad! I did cut my hair extremely short. It was a difficult storyline. And an important one. It helped save lives.”

Today, Ashley does not have a story, but with Davidson choosing to not sign a contract, that is the way things have to be. Stay tuned to The Young and the Restless this week to see Ashley through the years.
