Congratulations are in order for an iconic The Young and the Restless star! It’s time for Daytime Emmy Award winner Eric Braeden to celebrate his entrance into the world on April 3, 1941, making him 79 years young!

The legendary German film and television star was born Hans-Jörg Gudegast and is best known for his decades-long portrayal of Victor Newman on CBS’s number one rated daytime drama, The Young and the Restless.

Braeden’s other notable roles include Hans Dietrich in the 1960s series The Rat Patrol, John Jacob Astor IV in the 1997 film Titanic, and Dr. Charles Forbin in Colossus: The Forbin Project.

After coming to the U.S. in 1959, Braeden enrolled at the University of Montana. His early career saw him act under his birth name, and his resume from this time includes work on Combat!, Morituri, a film with Marlon Brando and Yul Brynner, the series The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and the film 100 Rifles with Raquel Welch, Burt Reynolds, and Jim Brown.

Braeden debuted on Y&R in 1980. The role was intended to be short-term, but after one look at Braeden as the self-assured and commanding self-made business titan Victor Newman, loyal fans were hooked.
