The Young And The Restless Spoilers: Eric Braeden Talks His Y&R Career, And If He Has Retirement PlansThe Young and The Restless spoilers tease that Eric Braeden, who plays the iconic Victor Newman on Y&R, talks about his career, turning 80 years young, and if he has retirement plans in this week’s issue of People Magazine.

The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Eric Braeden Talks About Victor Newman

Eric, known as Hans Gudegast when he played Captain Hans Dietrich on the ABC historical drama “The Rat Patrol” from 1966-1968, first appeared as Victor Newman on The Young and The Restless in 1980. In between, he acted in various television shows and movies, including “Colossus: The Forbin Project” in 1970, when he started using the screen name Eric Braeden. He also appeared in the Disney movie “Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo” as arrogant race car driver Bruno Von Stickle, and as Dr. Otto Hasslein in “Return To The Planet Of The Apes.”

He appeared in many classic primetime television shows such as “The Six Million Dollar Man”, “Gunsmoke”, “Wonder Woman”, and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” in the 1970s. But Eric says he feels most loyal to “The Young and The Restless” and cites his Emmy award winning role as Victor Newman as one that changed his life. He told an interviewer for People Magazine that he’s learned to appreciate who really has been essential to the show. He also talked at some length about his turning 80 and whether he has any retirement plans. Eric said he feels very beholden to his character of Victor, and to the audience who has supported the show for all those years. Eric intends to stay as Victor as long as he can, saying he has always looked for meaning in acting.

Y&R Spoilers – Eric Braeden Has NO Plans To Retire

Eric says also that he has learned to understand that the essence of what actors do is to entertain and make people happy, and that attitude has built him a fiercely loyal international fanbase. He has been in the role of Victor for forty-one years now, and has grown fond of some people who he has worked with for all those years, his television wife Melody Thomas-Scott, who plays Nikki Newman, for one. He admits she has put up with him when he has not always been the easiest guy to get along with, much as his character Victor Newman!

Eric’s 80th birthday is coming up on April 3 and even though he admits he wants to shy away from that number, he’s very proud of it at the same time. Like Victor, who keeps in shape by boxing, Eric starts his mornings with exercise; 100 left-right combinations of 100 hooks, 100 uppercuts, and then he says he does some planks. Eric says that he learned from early on that what one does in the last mile is what one is judged by. So he has decided to keep on plugging, keep on fighting, keep on working and he never plans to stop or to give up. He will never be the old man who sits down, contemplates his navel and wonders where the years went.

He firmly believes in the saying, if you don’t use it, you lose it! Eric has been married more than fifty years to interior designer Dale Russell, 78, and is the proud father to his son, who is a Hollywood filmmaker, named Christian Gudegast. He is a grandfather of three. Eric says he is looking forward to the adventures that await him while being true to who he is. He says he is still who he has always been, and loves his life, his colleagues, and family and friends. He has absolutely no plans to retire!
