He’s been out of town for months, sent on a tour of the Newman publishing offices all around the world, thanks to Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).
Cole Came Home Sick
He was absent when Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) confronted Jordan (Colleen Zenk), and later when Ian Ward (Ray Wise) took the mother and daughter hostage.
Cole was missing when Victor expressed his strong disapproval of ‘Kylaire’; sadly, Cole’s return was marked by a troubling new illness. During a meal with Victoria and Claire, he experienced a coughing fit that hinted at serious issues.
While he dismisses it as just a cold, we can’t ignore the possibility that he might be facing a critical health crisis. It’s conceivable that Cole’s condition arose naturally, but we also can’t discount the chance that Ian is involved.
Ian’s Thought To Be Dead, Even Cremated

Several months back, Ian was shot at the Newman Ranch and was declared dead by the paramedics who responded. However, viewers were later shocked to see Ian revive in the ambulance, only to vanish without a trace thereafter.
Given that Ian arrived at the ranch harboring intense resentment towards the Newmans, particularly Claire, whom he held responsible for Jordan’s death, it’s plausible that he has been scheming revenge against her.
Removing Cole from Claire’s life could inflict significant pain on her-and as for Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) finding out Ian was cremated, he could have paid the coroner off!
Claire Has Had Her Father In Her Life Only About A Year And A Half
Claire has only had the chance to connect with her biological father for about a year and a half, yet she deeply cherishes him and considers him a vital part of her life.

The thought of losing him would leave her heartbroken, a pain that Ian might now be feeling after Jordan’s departure.
If our hypothesis about Ian’s involvement holds true, we need to contemplate when he might have approached Cole and what substance he could have tainted him with.
Ian is a master manipulator, capable of a range of nefarious actions, so we must keep all possibilities on the table. Ian could have easily gained access to a bioweapon or a poison that would cause Cole’s symptoms!
Could Cole Survive An Attack From Ian?
It’s hard to say if Cole would withstand an attack from Ian, but we can say this from a narrative standpoint.
While we enjoy seeing Victoria in a happy and loving relationship, her connection with Cole seems to lack the excitement she experienced with her previous partners, resulting in a less dramatic storyline.
This is particularly evident as Victoria has moved away from her ‘Ice Queen’ persona lately; if Cole died, it might allow her character to revert to her former self.
This could lead to a more intense romance in the future. Whether Ian is behind Cole’s illness, which could possibly be a fatal one, remains to be seen.
