It’s a bit of a change to adjust from being a soap stud to a primetime star. When speaking about the series, which is in its fourth season, Hartley couldn’t say enough good things about the writers. The actor discussed the remarkable writing with Soap Opera Digest,

“... the interactions, like, the choices that they’re making, sort of like how brave the characters become… it’s remarkable how they can keep it so consistent with who the characters are, but at the same time introducing all of these new things… it’s like life.”

Hartley confessed that he has been on the set of The Young and the Restless since leaving the soap. However, he wasn’t there to play a role. He remains good friends with the cast and crew. He is currently working on a project that is about the world of daytime TV. A few writers tagged along with Hartley during the visit.

As fans know, Hartley’s role as Adam Newman would be taken over by Mark Grossman. Hartley had the chance to watch him work on the set. He said that Grossman was very gracious and is doing a great job. He added that his replacement “doesn’t need any advice from me” and has his hand “firmly on the wheel.”

Remembering Passions: Lisa de Cazotte’s Death

In addition to being on Y&R, Hartley was also on Passions. His former executive producer from that soap passed away. The actor explained that Lisa de Cazotte’s death was tragic and they were close. She was the person who gave him his very first chance.

“She was the one who hired me on Passions and gave me my first chance… I probably had absolutely no talent and for whatever reason, they agreed to hire me. She was a wonderful, wonderful woman who was taken too soon.”
