Once she was a hostage, Mariah’s mind was on other things. The longer that Mariah was in captivity, the more unraveled she became. She had no one to talk to except the unborn baby. So, she spent several weeks having conversations with her baby bump.

The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal that Mariah never intended to bond with the baby. Mariah was just talking to her baby bump as a way to keep from going completely crazy. She probably had no clue that talking to her baby bump would form a bond. It wasn’t just that, though. Mariah felt it was important to keep herself calm for the health of the baby. So, talking to the unborn child helped Mariah get through the ordeal.
Mariah was thankful that she had finally been found but she was already in labor. Abby and Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) delivered the baby with Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) instructing them via video chat. Unfortunately, Stitch fled the scene before Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) could apprehend him.

Mariah seemed mentally and physically okay once she was transported to the hospital. She was panicked about Stitch and wondered if he would get away with everything. Unknown to everyone else, there was something else bothering Mariah. As she slept, Abby held the baby boy and told him that mama was there now. At that point, Mariah woke up and glanced over at the mother and child.
The look on Mariah’s face was clear — she’s struggling to let go of the baby. In her mind, Mariah knows that the little boy is not hers — but that doesn’t make it any easier. Mariah isn’t going to want anyone to worry, so she will probably keep the devastating emptiness to herself. Those closes to Mariah might assume she’s just coping with the trauma of what happened. Will she be able to overcome this or will hiding the truth just make the situation worse?
