Ryan Mc Neil (Scott Reeves) asks Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck) to help Nina Webster (Tricia Cast) while Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) is telling Nina that she is going to get her help, namely a doctor, whether she wants it or not. Longtime viewers of The Young and the Restless will recall that Nina was Chance Chancellor’s (Donny Boaz) mother, and during this time period she had developed a drinking problem and started visiting bars, and in the episodes preceding this one, she had been given a date rape drug in one of the bars and been rescued by a policeman, and had realized that she needed professional help with her problems.
Ashley Abbott And Katherine Chancellor Destroy Infamous Photographs
Dr. Kurt Costner (Leigh McCloskey) begins to look at the photos. Ashley Abbott (Shari Shattuck from 1996-1999) asks Katherine to get Kurt out of the room. Ashley gets the photos (that she has seen) of Linda and Grant Long (uncredited day players) and throws them into the fireplace, just as Kurt reenters. Ashley, what are you doing with my photographs!? In the preceding episodes, there were quite a few people trying to get at those photos, including Grant Long; they apparently contained information he didn’t want to be exposed.
Grace Turner Begins Searching For Sharon Newman’s Baby
Grace Turner finds out that the lawyer, whose name is on the paper that Frank Barritt (Phil Dozois) gave her is in prison. She goes and pleads with the sick (literally) old man for information. He says he can’t help her, he doesn’t know anything…the guards then wheel him back to the infirmary as he has a coughing jag. Longtime viewers of The Young and The Restless will recall that this is when the search for Cassie Newman began.
Noah Newman (now Robert Adamson) had been born prematurely, and nearly died, but survived. Nick and Sharon baptized Noah in this episode. Cassie was the daughter of Sharon Newman and Frank Barritt whom she had given up for adoption as a teenager; Sharon was only sixteen and not equipped to be a mother at that young age. She was adopted by Alice Johnson (Tamara Clatterbuck) who was the daughter of Millie Johnson (Ernestine Mercer). Alice left little Cassie, whom she had named “Cassidy” to pursue a man with her elderly mother, Millie.
Grace had looked for Sharon’s baby she had given up to try to ease her pain when Noah was not expected to live and convinced Millie to return Cassie, then five years old to her birth mother and Nick, who she had married. But since Noah lived, Grace had decided to keep Cassie herself for a while and fell in love with the little girl, and she kept her true identity a secret for a year.
Finally, Grace told Sharon who Cassie really was, and at that time she went to live with Nick, Sharon, and Noah. Alice, who had returned, started a custody fight with the Newmans over Cassie, but Sharon and Nick were able to convince her that Cassie was better off with them. Cassie, of course, was the identical twin of Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) who came to the show later on.
