Nate became bitter after Devon Hamilton’s (Bryton James) physical attack resulted in an inability to perform surgery. Nate’s medical career took years to achieve. The loss of it was something that did not have to happen.

It was understandable that Devon was upset. But Elena’s free will choice to maintain a fluid bond mattered. While they were a couple, there was no confirmed public expression of their desire to affirm a permanent tie.

Elena did not stress marriage. So, the unsealed connection implied that both people were open to other romantic possibilities. Elena chose Nate and Devon coupled with Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan).

Y&R Spoilers – Purposely Wronging His Cousins

Devon’s punch at the Top of the Tower caused Nate’s face to be bruised and one of his hands to be badly broken. The result was his inability to continue performing as a surgeon.

Nate buried his blame and later projected it through Victoria’s purposeful offer. She exploited Nate’s negative feelings toward Devon when endorsing the plan to manipulate Chancellor-Winters intended stock offering.

Elena’s positive influence, which appeared to reflect Nate’s recognition of their mutual love and respect, caused Dominic’s character to voluntarily tell his cousins that his plan to wrong them was halted. The reveal dramatically impacted Devon and Lily Winters’ (Christel Khalil) perceptions.

However, the consequences of following Victoria’s orders telegraphs continued alienation from his family and the increasing likelihood that Elena breaks from him. Depending upon Victoria’s whim at that point in the plot, Audra could become Nate’s fallback option.
