Tristan Lake Leabu was the last actor to play the character, with his final appearance taking place in 2020. Could Reed be making a splashing return with a recast? Here’s what we know.
There’s No Such Thing As Coincidences
The Young and the Restless spoilers for the Thursday, July 2 episode confirm that Reed’s name was mentioned.
Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) were at Nikki Newman’s (Melody Thomas Scott) hospital bedside waiting for her to wake up.
Victoria was talking to Claire about her pregnancy with Reed and how her mom was an advocate for her in the hospital when she delivered. This is why she gave her son her mother’s maiden name.
Of all the memories about Nikki and how great a mom she was, it was interesting that the CBS soap chose that one.

There are never coincidences in daytime drama, so was Reed’s name mentioned on purpose, foreshadowing a return?
Reed Hellstrom’s Reason
From Nikki’s medical crisis to officially meeting his new sister, Claire, Reed has plenty of reasons to return home.
After all, Reed has yet to be officially introduced to Claire, who has become a pivotal member of the Newman family and storylines since she was introduced in 2023.
Plus, all arrows are pointing toward something happening between Victoria and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor).

Reed, being in and around the same age as Kyle, and returning to town, will be a daily reminder of his mom dating a man who is “too young” for her.
With that said, Summer Newman’s (Allison Lanier) name is constantly dropped in storylines; however, there doesn’t seem to be a comeback in sight.
There is always the chance that the show simply wanted to provide new fans with some historical perspective, so only time will tell.
