Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) recently joked about Nikki Newman’s (Melody Thomas Scott) anticipated advice on ‘The Young and the Restless’. After learning that her son broke things off with Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) on New Year’s Eve, Nikki told her son what Sharon predicted; he should stay away from Sharon.

Sharon and Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) are strong or appear to be. But the storyline that’s developing, which involves cancer, has the potential to dramatically alter many lives and existing relationships.

Once upon a soapy time in Genoa City, Wisconsin, Sharon and Nick formed what would become one of the show’s all-time couples. They arguably became in the 1990s what Nikki and Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) were in the 1980s.

And then catastrophe ensued. Cassie Newman’s (Camryn Grimes) untimely death forever altered ‘Shick’ and, as some belief, Y&R. The choice to kill off a beloved character, who was in her teens by 2005, was flabbergasting, risky, and forever debatable. But it happened and ‘Shick’ was done, never to fully reform since that time.

There have been so many dramatic moments that Sharon and Nick endured apart from each other in the years that have passed. The accumulation of those moments offers fodder for all who say that this couple wasn’t meant to last because each half appears to be uniquely combustible.

However, the Cassie bond was revived through Grimes’ return to the cast in the 2010s. Mariah Copeland (Grimes second alter ego) was revealed as Cassie’s heretofore unknown twin. While Nick doesn’t have the same connection to her as he did with Sharon’s other daughter, there’s no doubt that the presence of this invented character furthered ‘Shick’s’ story.

Noah Newman (Robert Adamson) and Faith Newman (Alyvia Alyn Lind) haven’t always been around. But their existence not only affirms that Sharon and Nick are connected by their offspring, but also by the places reserved in their hearts for each other.

The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Shick Sequel Can Never Be Discounted

TPTB have changed through the years on Y&R. Different supervising producers, executive producers, head writers, and their staffs have offered moments where it seemed Sharon and Nick would actually remarry. There were two instances within the decade that just passed where they stood at the altar, but didn’t reach the end of the ceremony. So, ‘Shick’ fans are right to be cynical regarding suggestions of any future re-pairing.

But a sequel can never be discounted because this is daytime. So Nick could return to Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), the original ‘Shick’ killer. He could remain single, eventually, find new love, or go back to Sharon, again.

As for Sharon, she cares for Rey, but he is not her original love. Nick is. And the seemingly projected health crisis she’ll face would require the support of all who love her, including an original soul mate.
