The Young and the Restless spoilers document Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) is trying to use her recent abduction experience. Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) believes that taunting their abductor is best.
An unusual storyline could have been reconsidered or ended quickly if Ian Ward (Ray Wise) was revealed from the jump as the villain this time around. But the messages a distorted voice offers, and the setting where these longtime rivals are being held are the only clues as to what’s happening.
Who would be motivated to capture Sharon and Phyllis and keep them together?
Along with that question, viewers must ask themselves who would know each person’s history and details about the rivalry they’ve created over the years.
Ian Ward Is The Abductor Once Again
Ian was assumed dead. He was wheeled out on a stretch by EMTs and received parting shots from the principal players that he had wronged.
In particular, the spotlight soliloquy Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) and Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) offered appeared definitive. Wise played his last scene and received a proper sendoff, worthy of an actor of his stature and the character he portrayed for years.
However, he woke up in the ambulance. That wouldn’t have happened if Ian fell unconscious and died shortly thereafter. So, the most straightforward and most plausible outcome had him escape and seek revenge on Sharon and Phyllis.
Comments To Jordan Howard Revisited
The late Jordan Howard (Colleen Zenk) heard Ian say that Sharon should be killed. He also wanted to set Phyllis up as her killer.
Jordan changed that plan. She didn’t want to kill Sharon, primarily because of distrusting Ian. So, Case’s character was put under Chancellor Park, which allowed her to live.
Ian exploded when he learned that Jordan didn’t follow his orders. He falsely believed that she was responsible for their so-called plan. In reality, Ian was using Jordan to target his enemies.
Ian would have helped Jordan retaliate against the Newmans. But that didn’t happen.
Two Actors Working At The Top Of Their Craft
Case and Stafford are great actors. There is no reasonable counterargument.
Seeing them paired for a first-of-its-kind double hostage scenario is intriguing. However, viewers need to be given more details soon to make this plot believable. Doing so will also provide a glimpse at a reasonable road ahead and exit strategy.
Of course, Ian is just one possible answer. An unknown abductor could be almost anyone, from a returned villain to an entirely new character.
Whatever proves out, Case and Stafford are elevating their performances above where both already live, and that is making solid soap. While this storyline feels misplaced, so soon after the Ian-Jordan tale, it will make sense if the surviving partner tortures Sharon and Phyllis to gain revenge.
