What Carrigan said during an interview with Soap Opera Digest is that Stitch isn’t a bad guy, but is emotionally damaged. Carrigan indicated that Abby realizes that it’s due to Stitch’s emotional damage. So, she isn’t trying to dismiss Mariah’s trauma, but has empathy for Stitch feeling so lost and desperate.

During an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Carrigan explained why Stitch went to such extremes. However, the actor also made it clear that an explanation is not an excuse.

Y&R Spoilers – Not Mentally Unstable

Some viewers speculated that Stitch might have become mentally unstable like his mother and sister. However, the actor said that is not the case and stresses there is a big difference between mental illness and emotional damage. Still, fans have to wonder what Stitch was thinking when he kidnapped Mariah and kept her locked up during her pregnancy.

The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal that some of Stitch’s happiest memories are when he was with Abby. So, Stitch was trying to reach out to those happy times in an attempt to find it again.

“I think he was trying to reach out to those memories in desperation. He’s lost, he’s hurt and he feels that’s he’s failed in a lot of ways as a father and a husband…I don’t think of Stitch as a bad man… he was scrambling and grasping for anything. Unfortunately, he was out of touch with how to do that.”

Y&R Spoilers – Twisted Trauma

Carrigan admits that it’s understandable why some fans don’t understand why Stitch kidnapped Mariah. The actor hopes that the impact of Stitch’s emotional trauma came through the screen. Although the kidnapping scheme was twisted to a rational person, it was to show just how much turmoil Stitch is in.

As for whether Stitch will ever come back, Carrigan thinks there is a possibility. He was grateful to come back for this story arc. If the character is brought back again, Carrigan hopes Stitch can wipe the slate clean.

“I feel there’s still some unfinished stories to tell with Stitch… I’ll always answer the call from them.”
