Readers of this comprehensive soap site know that Mealor and King did not extend their contracts. So, it is understandable that Skyle was written away to Milan, Italy, after their reunion.
Denying the actors and the fans a Skyle wedding was an interesting choice following the many years all parties invested in this couple. But was it understandable?
The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Let It Be, Skyle Fans
Fans of The Beatles know the 1970 song, The Long and Winding Road, is from the last album (Let It Be) this legendary group released. Stretching to make a musical connection, Skyle fans know the lengthy and circuitous plot path that Skyle took to remarriage.
Summer and Kyle’s initial marriage was a sham. As hardcore fans recall, Summer pressured Kyle into marrying her and remaining committed for a year as part of her rivalry with Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle). They did marry, but Kyle dropped out shortly thereafter.
This month’s unseen Skyle remarriage was a complete contrast. The upbeat event followed the long and winding road both characters took to confirm their love. So, why was it not shown on-screen?
Y&R Spoilers – Career Decisions Are Considered
King and Mealor’s departures from the cast were not acrimonious, as both actors offered public comments that were business-related. They teased a return appearance, and it happened at the tense Vashland wedding.
The daytime door is open for the characters to recur. That appears to mean each actor handled the lack of a regular contract renewal with professionalism.
Daytime roles are a mental and physical grind, with the actors in this entertainment area ranking with the hardest working in the industry. A break from a grueling, year-round schedule is natural, whether it is temporary or serving as a bridge to the next part of one’s career.
The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Accepting Good News
It would have been good to see Summer and Kyle tie the knot, with Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez) serving as the ring bearer. The opportunity for poignant scenes that featured Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) was missed, no doubt.
If Mealor and King had reached contract extension agreements, then the Skyle wedding would likely have taken place in Genoa City, Wisconsin. That event would have preceded Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Ashland Locke’s (Richard Burgi) event in Tuscany, Italy.
But the above did not happen. So, Mealor and King decided to appreciate what was possible. Their choice allowed the fans to do so as well.
