Viewers recall that Victor was not sold on Ashland’s illness. He questioned the character that was then played by Richard Burgi (Ashland), with Victoria being bothered by her father’s seeming rude nature.

While Victor’s suspicions eventually were proven right, Y&R fans know that Victor appeared swayed by Ashland’s explanations. Why else would he have dropped questions about that topic?

Now, with Ashland admitting he lied about having terminal cancer, Victor is patting himself on the back for unearned insight.

Victoria has closed ranks. Asking her mother to be co-Chief Executive Officer at the restored Newman Enterprises was a trust move.

Adam momentarily held an interim CEO title, per Victor’s approval. But with Victoria surviving the car crash and in naming Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) her equal, Adam is not needed.

Ashland is in full sulk mode. He wants to reunite with Victoria, but she is not interested and has let him know so.

Adam hopes to exploit both people’s feelings by goading them into a romantic revival story line. Victoria and Ashland may eventually rekindle their relationship if Adam and his sidekick, Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope), are proven right.

The hope is that Victor is outraged by Victoria’s presumed forgiveness and romantic reconciliation. Adam must believe that his father would shift power to him at that point in the plot.
