Viewers are not expecting Victoria to be an advocate for Ashland anytime soon, if ever. But this is daytime where unexpected and seemingly unexplainable events happen.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Upon First Blush In Genoa City
Ashland (as then played by Richard Burgi) arrived in Genoa City, Wisconsin, looking to sell Cyaxares Communications to the best bidder. He finagled three offers, finally accepting one from Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), who was pulling a fast on his supposedly beloved firstborn child, Victoria.
As fans recall and some characters have also reinforced, Victor was on-board with Ashland’s duplicitous sale. The Moustache wanted to prove a point to Victoria while giving Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) an outlet to flex his business muscles in a controlled environment.
The Cyaxares deal was followed by Ashland courting Victoria. She did not respond to his overtures until he and Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) were over. The merger and marriage became the short-lived legacies of Ashland and Victoria’s business and personal pairing.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Ashland Locke Does Not Recognize Defeat
Ashland was convinced that Victoria was honestly giving him a second chance. He did not like having to confirm the cancer diagnosis was a ruse. But after having time to stew, Ashland realized he was wrong and pleaded for Victoria’s mercy.
The quarter-billion-dollar donation to New Hope was an effort to project that the Lockeness Monster was gone. Saving Victoria’s life after the three-car crash that killed Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) appeared to provide Ashland with a soapy reunification reason.
To later realize that Victoria never accepted Ashland’s apology and to hear her ruthless comments about his soul was too much. So, the Lockeness Monster is back because that is Ashland’s most familiar defense mechanism.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Victoria Newman Put In An Unusual Position
Just as TPTB positioned Victoria and Ashland so that Newman’s character would have a believable chance to make amends, so too can another scenario be invented that enables Heinle’s character to save her ex-husband.
Hopefully, the Ashland character is not being slowly written out of the show. But for Newman’s alter ego to stay, he will need to go beyond the revenge game that is being played. That only has so much daytime shelf-life, with a more lasting story line needing to happen.
So, maybe Victoria decides that she will not allow her Victor-like ego to rule her. Ashland can be saved from himself if Victoria plays a major role in that climax to what hopefully is just an arc and not Ashland’s Y&R ending.
