Ashland does not know if Adam is being straight with him. Grossman’s character could be pulling a Victoria. Adam might be claiming to want to work with Ashland to bring the Newman family down with the intent of pulling the soapy rug out from under the Lockeness Monster.

So, Ashland will need to create a test or a series of tests for Adam. If he demonstrates reasonable success, then his truthfulness would be generally confirmed.

These men are not likely to ever trust each other. But they could work together to realize a common, vengeful goal. What happens after that is hard to predict.

It appears that Adam is serious. He has concluded that Victor has no faith in him and sees no reason to remain at Newman Enterprises.

But Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) talk with him proved meaningful. In it, Adam learned that Victoria will fir Sally if he does not return to head Newman Media.

Adam would benefit being back at the family business, as that would allow him to undermine from within while keeping a valued back channel open to Ashland. Doing so would enable Adam to exact any one of several plans and either help or hurt Ashland or Victor.

Few predicted that Ashland would create a scenario that led to his company merging with Newman Enterprises, and at Victoria’s behest. Many would have guessed that Adam would become fed up with Victor and leave Newman Media.

Fans know that Ashland has become an important character. The high-profile hiring of Robert Newman as the Ashland recast underscored the significance and potential of Victoria’s now-spurned love.

Generally, the legacy characters on this show win. But it is realistic to believe that Ashland can outwit Adam if the character Newman plays stays in Genoa City, Wisconsin, long-term.
