The Young And The Restless spoilers reveal that Brett Hadley, who played Carl Williams has died at 92. Carl was a police detective and the father of Paul Williams (ex-Doug Davidson). Brett played Carl from 1980-90 and 98-99.
Brett Hadley Joined The Show In 1980
The Young and The Restless spoilers indicate that Brett joined Y&R in 1980 when William J. Bell, the head writer at the time, decided to give Paul onscreen parents. Along with Carl Williams, the writers added Paul’s very religious mother, Mary Williams, who was played by Carolyn Conwell, who passed away in 2012.
Hadley was born in Louisville Ky on September 25, 1930. Hadley later studied drama at the University of New Mexico. Hadley appeared on stage but also appeared in a long list of prime-time television guest roles. Hadley also appeared in movies such as The Mad Bomber, Funny Lady, and Next of Kin. Several of Hadley’s former co-stars have reacted to his passing.
The Young And The Restless Spoilers – What Happened To Carl Williams?
Carl disappeared from Genoa City and was gone for eight years before Mary had him declared legally dead, with some urging from Paul and Christine Blair (Lauralee Bell).
Mary was ready to move on and marry a man she had fallen in love with when Christine realized she had helped Paul’s father who was working as a security guard at the Norfolk airport named Jim Bradley.
Carl has been badly beaten and left on the highway to die. Carl was saved but had amnesia. Carl came home after a while but Mary could never bring his memory back. Later Carl returned to Norfolk and the woman who had saved him and the two presumably married as they had previously planned.
Y&R Spoilers – Sentiments From Co-Stars
Beth Maitland, who plays Traci Abbott commented: “The passing of Brett Hadley is such sad news. He was a delight to work with and was an upbeat and happy presence in the halls and on the set.
He was an old-fashioned guy. Always professional, but full of fun stories and laughs and was always happy to be on the stage. His memory speaks to a happy time, when soaps were in their heyday and the actors were legendary and larger than life. Rest well, old friend. You will be missed.”
Lauralee Bell who plays Christine Blair: “Brett was the sweetest guy. Biggest smile and the believability of he and Doug Davidson being father and son was like no other!”
Of course, Christine married Paul twice so Carl would have been her father-in-law. Although as of the last mention, Christine said she and Paul could not work things out and their marriage is over.
