The Young And The Restless Spoilers – 20 Years Of Lily Winters

As Christel Khalil celebrates 20 years playing Lily Winters, the daughter of Drucilla Winters (Victoria Rowell) and Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) — although Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore) is her biological dad — she looks back on her life as the character she has played since she was 14 years old.

By the time Lily was paired with Daniel Goddard’s Cane Ashby, Khalil had already spent several years on the soap and even left for a year. She was 17 when she decided to try life on her own without her parents and without the soap she had called home through several years of her adolescence, but after a year, she return to Y&R. By the time she was 19, Lily met Cane Ashby and her entire life changed.

As for Khalil, she didn’t even realize what was happening and had no idea that at such a young age she was one half of such a popular pairing.

Y&R Spoilers – Where Is Cane Ashby?

Cane and Lily have been divorced for several years now, but did raise two twins together who are now off in college. Cane left town when he was accused of stealing Devon Hamilton’s money, but it was his father who did it. Cane returned the billions but hasn’t been seen since.

Now, Khalil explains how oblivious she was to everything going on with the fans when Cane and Lily first became a couple.

“I don’t really know when it happened. I’ve never been fully aware of that stuff. I’ve never paid attention,” Khalil told TV Insider. I just do my job and hope that it all works out. But I saw in the magazines that [Cane and Lily] were the No. 1 couple. They were favorites. It was so crazy. I was happy that people really liked them.”

The actress also admits it might have taken a little while to get used to working with an older man.

“I was 19 when Lily was paired with Cane. I was still a kid. Daniel was a man about to have a baby,” Khalil told TV Insider. “It was different at first. We met in the middle pretty quickly. [Laughs] I think women are more mature than men – I’m kidding! It worked itself out but yes, in the beginning, we didn’t have as much in common.”
