The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal Summer’s shock turning into Summer’s agreement to help her mother do a bad, bad thing. Summer Newman Abbott (Alison Lanier) has certainly been mourning Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) more than anyone else — even more than her older brother Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei).
She feels extreme guilt for how she treated her mother before her alleged death, but now Phyllis shows herself in the park and Summer realizes her mom is not dead after all.

“Shocked and stunned would definitely be an understatement,” Alison Lanier said in the May 1, 2023, issue of Soap Opera Digest. “Summer has been bottling up he emotions in order to give her mom the treatment she deserved.”
After Phyllis explains everything that went on with Jeremy Stark (James Hyde), Summer actually agrees to help her mom.
Yes, even after knowing she was setting up Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) to take the fall for a murder that didn’t happen and learning that Phyllis killed Jeremy, Summer is ready to make the situation worse.
She is not about to let her mother go to jail, but clearly has no trouble at all watching her mother-in-law go to prison for a crime nobody committed.

There is no way that Summer’s marriage to Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor)can withstand such a horrible deception and there is also no way what Summer and Phyllis are doing won’t come to light one day.
Secrets like this never stay hidden forever, so Summer is deciding her deceitful mother is more important than her husband, and stepson who thinks of her as a mom.
“Summer hates lying and she’s not very good at it,” Lanier said.” But her need to show loyalty to her mom will definitely weigh heavily on her.”
That might not be entirely true as when Summer returned to GC in 20118, she lied all the time and was definitely a manipulator, trying to seduce Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) away from Phyllis when they were together.

I HATE THIS, what kind of twisted writers do they hire, I also usually hate to talk badly about the writers. For the writers to allow Summer to protect Phyllis after knowing that her psycho mom set an innocent woman up, and killed a man. How can she not feel some loyalty to her husband. What does she believe that she will be able to do when it’s found out that Phyllis is alive? Why can’t the writers have a few good and decent people in that town, other everyone condemning an innocent woman, and care nothing about the possibility of her being innocent. It’s as though the writers try to put subliminal messages in the heads of the fans about hate. Why destroy the marriage of two fairly normal young people?
This helping her mother might get the best of Summer, keeping a secret like this Summer will soon regret later on. I say stay clear of helping her then she want feel guilty. Phyllis does not care how this will effect Summer. It is alreadt taking a toll on her. What about Daniel will Summer tell him his mom is alive. Phyllis is just trying to save her own hide. If she really cares about Summer she would not ask her to do this. Let Phyllis pay for crimes like everyone else. Am waiting for Chance to figure it out, that Phyllis was helping Stark. And setting Diane up for crime, she did not do. Hope last laugh is on Phyllis.
I totally agree.. Phyllis only cares about phyliss, its sad she don’t understand what mental damages she’s doing to her daughter and to her daughther marriage…oh wait phyliss dont care.
