'The Young and the Restless' (YR) POLL: Shey Begins But Will Sharon and Rey Last?Sharon Collins (Sharon Case) has added many last names to her maiden one since first appearing in Genoa City on ‘The Young and the Restless’ in 1994. Might she eventually go by Rosales as well, or won’t she and Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) last long enough to realize a marriage?

This pairing has long been teased. Both parties also demonstrated unusual resistance in not getting together. That alone indicated to savvy soap fans that ‘Shey’ was going to happen at some point. As of this spring, they happened.

Y&R teased a ‘Shick’ revival many times since that super couple split, for good, in the mid-2000’s. Sharon and Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) attempt to remarry in 2014 was blocked by the Phyllis Summers (Gina Tognoni) recast. Then, last fall, Sharon learned of Nick’s connect with Phyllis and the ‘Shick’ reboot was off at the church (again).

Fans knew that Nick’s tell to Sharon, regarding Rey loving her, was the signal that ‘Shey’ was greenlighted by the writer’s room. That, combined with Noemi Gonzalez’ (Mia Rosales) announced cast exit (with no known Mia recast), meant that Rey was free as well.

There’s no question that plenty of plot space has been offered to Sharon and Rey since Vilasuso’s character was invented last year. His arrival in GC was noted by Sharon, but she genuinely wasn’t interested in pursuing him at the time. The same wasn’t true for Rey, as Sharon caught his eye and heart from the start.

Viewers don’t yet know if an off-screen Mia will deliver Rey’s child. It would seem that Arturo Rosales (Jason Canela) will be the dad, unless Mia is written back in someday with Rey becoming the re-imagined reveal father of her child.

So, it would seem that Y&R has positioned Rey and Sharon within each other’s paths and with each character having no other current romantic tie. That fictional reality should give ‘Shey’ a chance to succeed, or at least that what fans are being asked to reasonably believe.
