The Young and the Restless (YR) Poll: Team Summer or Team Lola?

Three people have made choices on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Summer (Hunter King) has chosen to play into her entitled life. Lola (Sasha Calle) has chosen to start a business because she apparently doesn’t come from money and wants to make her own way in the world. Kyle (Michael Mealor) bought a sandwich and has probably just encountered someone who will become personally important to him, as he will to Lola. At least, that’s what this seeming couple switch appears to project as.

Living La Vida Lola was the catchy name on the food truck where Y&R chose to introduce its newest character. Calle was recently cast as Arturo (Jason Canela) and Rey’s (Jordi Vilasuso) sister.

In a fitting scene contrast, Mealor’s character was shown telling Summer that he still had feelings for her. She responded by saying that she loved him, like a brother. Kyle didn’t accept the honor that was bestowed upon him and left Crimson Lights.

At a later point Kyle was shown in an outdoor setting, as has become part of Y&R’s regular visuals within the past year-plus. It was lunch time, he was hungry and there was Lola. The working-class comparison between Summer’s backstory and this new character was instantly recognizable, though Calle’s character also evidenced the same bold attitude that Summer and Kyle share. Emotions naturally fuel youth, as soap fans have likely experienced themselves.

Now the rivalry that’s obviously been established really isn’t a fair one. Summer loudly returned to Genoa City early this, uh, summer. She had clearly been reimagined in what felt like and then revealed itself in a forced fashion. Y&R didn’t intend for the new Summer to be likeable.

Summer’s use of Kyle, the moral attack against her mother, the base play for Billy (Jason Thompson), among other points, made King’s previously sympathetic character into a villain. What type of person would vote for team Summer?

And now there’s Lola. Since she’s a fresh face, so there’s nothing to be opposed to. Here’s a singular individual who’s motivated to start her own business on a GC city street. That’s admirable, entry level entrepreneurism. She’s also attractive, which Kyle noticed. Lola was also seen favorably looking at him.

Hmm, ‘Kola’, or ‘Lyle’? That should be a future poll question.
