The start of what will be a repeat episode schedule is caused by the worldwide virus pandemic. Production had to be shut down in mid-March, which means that all remaining unaired Y&R episodes will be been broadcast this week.
The concept of airing memorable episodes, or a portion of a particularly engaging arc is intriguing. Y&R will allow longtime fans to refresh their soap memories, while newer viewers will gain insight into the characters they’ve been getting to know and others who were one-time residents of Genoa City, Wisconsin.
Next week’s classic episodes will feature Cooper and early performances from various current and past characters who were paired with her on selected shows. Does that beg the question as to which other episodes fans would like to see?
The Young And The Restless Spoilers – More Katherine Chancellor, Of Course
Cooper’s Y&R career dates back to the show’s debut year, which was 1973. She was the leading lady through 2013, which was the year she passed.
Few would debate that Cooper was and remains the show’s greatest actor and that Katherine is therefore Y&R’s greatest character. It then stands to reason that fans, both tenured and fresh, will want to see more of the ‘Grande Dame’.
While Y&R will be rebroadcasting episodes that date back to 1990, reaching to the 1970’s would also be appreciated.
One of the show’s all-time great storylines involved the genesis of Katherine’s battle with Jill Foster (as originally played by Brenda Dickson, who, like Cooper, debuted in 1973). Both ladies battled for the heart of Phillip Chancellor II (as originally played by John Considine, in 1973 and 1974, and was last played by Donnelly Rhodes, in 1974 and 1975). That arc represented just one of countless tales where Cooper’s work was resplendent.
Y&R Spoilers – Victor Newman Came To Own Genoa City
Just as Cooper will always be the show’s leading lady and top actor, so too must honor rightly be given to its greatest leading man, Eric Braeden (Victor Newman). Viewers have often seen an episode, snippets, or even a single scene from Victor’s early days, which started in 1980. Now, with time to do so, why not revisit how it all began?
Victor’s entrance, where he was recruited by Katherine to run Chancellor Industries and his initial love story with Julia Newman (Meg Bennett, who briefly reprised her role during Newman Enterprises fiftieth anniversary celebration), his wife before Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), provide plenty of important backstories that can be told.
The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Drucilla Winters Deserves Her Due
One of these iconic soap’s greatest actors is Victoria Rowell (Drucilla Winters). She was a true powerhouse during her run, which lasted from 1990-2000, and from 2002-2007.
Dru’s epic love story with Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) was key to the show’s programming during Rowell’s reign. She was last seen during the tribute episodes that were offered after St. John passed last year.
Fans would surely love to see two of Y&R’s all-time most popular actors and characters again. Rebroadcasting the origin of their love story, along with other adventures, would certainly be welcomed.
Of course, there are also many other classic characters who can provide worthwhile viewing as well.
