The above question requests the reader’s hunch, rather than their hope. The question isn’t if one wants Hilary eliminated, as detractors would elect. It’s also not a query regarding whether Morgan could rejoin the cast in the future, regardless of what happens with Hilary. In that instance, she could play her unknown twin sister or some such alternative ego.
Of course, in the soapy world, many dead characters have been resurrected. But that’s not the point right now. Instead, Morgan’s announced cast departure and the fact that she posted that she filmed her final scenes leaves open the possibility that Hilary could die.
This would be one of the more unsettling character write-outs in recent memory. While it wouldn’t reach the level of Cassie’s (Camryn Grimes) death, which resulted due to the effects of injuries suffered in a car accident, it would remove a significant regular Genoa City player permanently.
This development, being that it was most unexpected, even considering the public’s knowledge of Morgan’s voluntary departure, would actually be a compliment to the actor’s efforts. Some fictional personas are so deeply linked to the original actor that another can’t take over.
There have been various recasts on Y&R through the years. Some were well received, others weren’t. The names of those characters won’t be offered in order to keep the focus on the topic at hand, Hilary.
Seasoned soap fans watched Hilary’s direct play to the GC Buzz audience this week. Morgan was allowed to look directly into the camera and address her fans, which was a classy way of allowing this fine actor to offer a heartfelt, stand-alone goodbye. That telegraphed impending doom, which then arrived. But how far will Y&R go?
