The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Ashley Abbott Has Also Suffered The Pain Of Losing A Baby

Like her daughter, Ashley has suffered the devastating pain of losing a baby. Although she made it almost all the way through the pregnancy, the baby boy who would have been Abby’s older brother was stillborn. Little Robert Carlton was the child of Ashley and the late Brad Carlton (Don Diamont).

Ashley had been in a car accident while pregnant with him and while she survived, he had to be delivered and he didn’t. Before that happened, she had an affair with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and became pregnant. Victor went back to Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) when she was suffering from what was believed to be a terminal disease. Ashley was devastated and chose to abort.

The pain she suffered from Robert being stillborn was so intense it broke her. She had her second mental breakdown, the first having been when she found out that her birth father was wasn’t John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) but a lover of Dina Mergeron’s (Marla Adams) named Brent Davis (Jim McMullan, Bert Kramer). He had been the pro at the Genoa City Country Club and had also had an affair with Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper)! Both Dina and Katherine had tried to talk him out of telling Ashley the truth on his deathbed but were unable to stop him.

Y&R Spoilers – Mother-Daughter Parallels

There are several mother-daughter parallels. Ashley found out John Abbott wasn’t her birth father, and Abby found out Brad Carlton wasn’t hers. The situations were different, however. Ashley had wanted to replace the baby she had aborted, who was Victor’s. Instead of conceiving Abby through another affair with Victor, Ashley stole Victor’s sperm from a sperm bank and had herself artificially inseminated. Abby found out Victor was her birth father through a video that Ashley made for her when she had a bout with cancer.

Abby found the video, not meant to be given to her unless Ashley died, and watched it. She didn’t tell her mother or ask questions of her, she went straight to Victor! She saw both Brad and Victor as father figures, having discovered the video when quite young. Abby had quite a few boyfriends and an affair or two until marrying the first time, to Ben “Stitch” Rayburn (Sean Carrigan) an old army buddy of Dylan McAvoy’s (Steve Burton). He had been a medic in the Army and earned the nickname “Stitch”.

He finished med school while in Genoa City and became a doctor at Genoa City Memorial Hospital. Then he took a job at Jabot as a chemist. Stitch had been having sex with both mother and daughter! But, he and Abby married anyway. Abby became pregnant but tripped and lost the baby in a fall down the stairs at the Athletic Club, where her baby shower was taking place! The miscarriage and various other problems wore away at their marriage, which only lasted a year. Abby was devastated by both the miscarriage and the divorce.

 The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Abby Talks To Ashley About Considering Pregnancy And A Future With Chance Chancellor

Abby decides there is no better person to understand what she is going through than her mother. Ashley will certainly understand Abby’s fears of future pregnancies, as well as marriage. Even though Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) is worlds apart from a different man than Stitch or any of Abby’s previous boyfriends, Ashley may share her concerns.

Ashley has gone through so many similar situations as her daughter, she may tend to want to discourage her. However, concerning she had Abby after two terrible experiences, she may be encouraging. Will she be able to encourage her daughter to work past her fears? Time will tell!
