The ‘Niktor’ 1980’s memories, rolled via VHS tapes that were obviously preserved through a digital transfer, reminds all viewers that memories of yesterday can be accurate. But the point isn’t to compare edited images from one’s mind with however one chooses to see today.
Victor sat and then laid aside of Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) in her hospital bed as she fights for her life through a coma. Together, this couple and none other, have been, are, and will always be Y&R’s lead pairing. They’ve earned that status, as have the actors who play them. Is this an opinionated paragraph? You betcha.
Braeden joined the cast in 1980, Thomas Scott in 1981. Y&R recently achieved an incredible milestone in becoming daytime’s number one rated soap opera for thirty consecutive years. These two talented actors are, without question, major contributors to this show’s success, both past and ongoing.
Soaps naturally evoke various takes from the passionate fans who wantingly consume the genre. What does the term fan mean in this instance? Well, it’s someone who chooses to invest up to five hours, less commercials, on a weekly basis because that person enjoys escapist entertainment and values all that everyone in front of the camera and behind the scenes does. These individuals also appreciate fellow fans.
In addition to warm-hearted Christmas scenes from ‘Niktor’s’ early days, fans also saw Jack (Peter Bergman) and Dina (played by the Daytime Emmy Award deserving, Marla Adams) share heart-breaking, but also affirming moments by the Abbott family Christmas tree, which included another sparkling retro scene with the younger versions of both characters. Devon (Bryton James), Nate (Brooks Darnell), and Ana (Loren Lott), also spoke of their personal histories.

The great Camryn Grimes (Mariah and previously Cassie, bridging the mid-part of Y&R’s history, with modern times), narrated this week’s reminiscent story through the GC Buzz, show-within-a-show format. Kudos to now departed executive producer and head writer Mal Young and supervising producer’s Tony Morina (now, executive producer) and Josh Griffith (now, head writer), along with all others for this great episode, which proves that solid soap still exists.
Y&R was great in days gone by and in more recent years. It’s also fully valued now.
