It’s taken more than six months for Mariah to learn what really happened the night she passed out in Victoria’s (Amelia Heinle). Tessa only recently discovered the ugly truth about J.T.’s death and used that information to ferret a quarter of a million dollars from Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott).
A thin part of the plot recently saw Tessa agree to Mariah’s move into her small apartment. Would someone do that if they had a duffel bag and a mattress full of ill-gotten loot? Likely not, but Y&R needed to push this extended storyline to its coming conclusion and so the illogical happened.
Tessa’s choice to show Mariah the digital evidence she conveniently stumbled upon at Dark Horse winked hard at viewers. That break in this plot has been anticipated for months. Y&R is signaling the final act in the J.T. Dies storyline is about to unfold.
Sharon is naturally shocked to learn that Mariah knows about the coverup crew. Case’s character’s subsequent reveal to her cohorts then sets a plan in motion, whereby Mariah attempts to trap Tessa.
Miss Porter was smart enough to concoct and execute the entire blackmail ruse. She also, apparently, was able to facilitate safe passage to Canada for Crystal (Morgan Obenreder). However, Tessa has also recently broken under pressure and foolishly showed her hand to Mariah.

The admitted grifter has been living in dangerous territory for weeks. But now that Mariah knows her recent backstory, Tessa could soon become a different type of threat.
There’s no telling what Fairbanks’ well-played alter ego will do if she feels betrayed, or cornered. Tessa could run from Genoa City, turn the coverup crew into the police, or help the involved characters who’ve helped her in the past.
