Sharon (Sharon Case) now knows Nick (Joshua Morrow) cares about her on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But there’s a problem. Isn’t there always in daytime drama-land?
Y&R viewers, and ‘Shick’ fans, in particular, have been waiting for more than a decade to see a completed revival of this one-time power couple. Readers, notice that cheeky tag (power couple and others referring to pairings) are fading, or are gone? Have the social media masses decided that truth, or are a small contingent of internet overlords purposely removing that word from the lexicon? No, group think isn’t a conspiracy. Influencing minds through words and actions began long before Sharon and Nick first met in the mid-1990’s.
Speaking of overlords, those behind the scenes at Y&R teased a full-blown ‘Shick’ reunion, including a wedding, in 2014. As tenured fans recall, the recast Gina Tognoni burst into the church and the new Phyllis stopped the intended nuptials. Now, the former ‘Red’ is trying to do that again. This time she’s using a different information source as her weapon.
Phyllis, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), and Mariah (Camryn Grimes) are all trying to thwart ‘Shick’ Part II. However, the truth is that Sharon is the person who’s actually jeopardizing any future she may have with Nick.
Sharon’s initial instincts were right. She wanted the ‘Ladies Night In’ emotional support group to contact the authorities. But Phyllis and Nikki believed it best to cover up what was an accidental crime. The key moment in Vickie’s (Amelia Heinle) bedroom scene came when Y&R’s writers had Nikki say that Paul wasn’t a friend any longer. That wasn’t logically correct but furthered the intended storyline.
Later, Sharon opted to go along with Phyllis, Nikki, and Victoria. This foursome decided to maintain their group silence. But since that time Vickie pushed the plan to a new level by falsely claiming she helped J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) escape town. Her intentions were noble, as she wanted to release her mom and former sisters-in-law from further legal probing.
Obviously, Nick is going to learn what happened on that horrible night. Paul and everyone else will as well. So how will the second-half of the reforming ‘Shick’ feel at that time, as emotion will rule his reveal day?
That’s the problem Sharon has in delaying the inevitable. She’s broken Nick’s trust, again. Hopefully, he’ll realize that her intentions protected his mom and Vickie and remain on the ‘Shick’ reunion path.
