Why The Young And The Restless Surrogate Story Was An Absolute Disaster

The Young And The Restless: Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal Mariah missing the baby she gave birth to and Abby thrilled to finally have a baby despite her husband being MIA, and perhaps that MIA husband is just one reason this surrogate story was ill-conceived from the start.

The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Abby Newman Really Needs A Baby

It always felt that the entire reason Abby (Melissa Ordway) and Chance even got married is that Abby really wanted a baby and she’d had bad luck with men and pregnancy before. She was so thrilled someone else also wanted a baby that marriage had to be the logical next step.

When Abby couldn’t get pregnant right away, she immediately ran to the doctor, and lo and behold, she couldn’t carry a baby to term due to her prior miscarriage. Her eggs were fine, but Chance’s sperm were not. And as soon as Chance learned that he literally vanished into thin air.

So, Abby then decided to make a baby using new BFF Mariah Copeland’s (Camryn Grimes) uterus and former flame Devon Hamilton’s (Bryton James) swimmers. What made this combination even weirder is the fact that Devon slept with Maiah, as well. Devon gets around, and soon his sperm does too, making a baby with Abby’s egg to put in Mariah’s womb. Mariah and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) moved on in with Abby and Abby proceeded to annoy everyone — including the audience — while Chance remained missing in action. We were also forced to believe Devon would ever make a baby he would give up.

Y&R Spoilers – The Pregnancy Went Off The Rails

When Mariah disappeared as soon as Abby’s ex, Stitch (Sean Carrigan), arrived back in town, it was pretty clear what was going on. Stitch took her because he had lost his mind after everything that happened to his son, Max. The only saving grace to this arc of the story was watching Mariah bond with the baby she was carrying as Camryn Grimes spent weeks telling us Mariah’s thoughts as she said them out loud to the baby she named Bowie.

Then, the story became a bit trashy again when Abby was so wrapped up in her own world — as she always — is that she threw the name Bowie away and named the baby Dominic, after Devon and Mariah with M as the third letter, as Mariah pointed out.

If Y&R really wants to save this story and make it into a soap opera, have Abby turn out not to be his mother because of some odd twist of lab switch fate. Stay tuned to The Young and the Restless weekdays to see how this story plays out.

I completely agree with this article, this surrogate story is garbage. When Abby and Chance set about starting a family I was initially thrilled. I thought at last Abby is going to get a decent story and finally grow up. I was very quickly disappointed and instead of Abby's character becoming more enjoyable for me to follow she quickly became unbelievably annoying. I don't want to hate on Abby, I want to be able to enjoy this character and watch her having some really good stories. Sadly though she is becoming increasingly childish and self-centered. The only thing believable about this surrogacy story is that she's got her new husband to run for the hills, because seriously who could put up with listening to her day in and day out. Never mind the swimmers not working, Abby opening her pouty mouth is enough to send any man limp and impotent.

oh good grief that lock up was bad enough – don't make it Miriah's baby now. Just let Abby grow up and act like for an adult and be a mother, Miriah & Tessa can have their own baby. Let Abby & Devon fall back in love and bond over the baby and go on to another story.
