Will Hunter King Return To The Young And The Restless As Summer Newman?

The Young and the Restless spoilers suggest fans were rocked to learn Allison Lanier is exiting the soap and her Summer Newman role, this coming week.

In fact, her final scenes with the show air on Friday, May 2. Will Summer depart from Genoa City as well, or do producers have a specific recast in mind?

OG Summer Newman Returns?

Allison Lanier announced her Y&R exit on the social media platform X. Her final appearance is mere days away. Soap Opera Digest reported on Lanier’s departure, revealing that sources have told them there are no immediate recast plans on the horizon for Summer.

This seems odd to say the least, as Summer plays a key role in storylines. As of this writing, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that Summer could leave town or be presumed dead; however, the landscape of soaps can change rather quickly, even within a matter of moments.

This begs the question – is Summer leaving the canvas for a while? Then again, could Hunter King return to the role? There would be no audition process needed, as Hunter was the first actress to play a SORASed Summer as a teen and grew with the character into a young adult.

It seemed as if the show was moving toward a Summer, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), and Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) love triangle, with potential for a Skyle reunion, but this cannot happen without Summer on the canvas. So … what is going on?

Hunter King’s History With The Soap

Hunter has a very busy schedule and is quite in demand. With that said, that doesn’t mean a return is completely out of the question. Nothing has been confirmed that she could return to the role, either by the actress herself or the show.

King entered the role in 2012, left the show in 2016, only to return from 2018 to 2022. While Allison Lanier was adored by fans, there’s nothing like the original, and many would love to see King return.

During her time as Summer Newman, King was nominated for a Daytime Emmy five times, snagging the award in the Younger Actress category, twice.
