Rolling Stone magazine reports that the “Architect of Rock and Roll” passed away on Saturday. He was 87 years old and the death was confirmed by his son, Danny Jones Penniman. According to Michael Fairman, the cause of death was cancer.

Little Richard was widely successful and it is rare to come across anyone who has never heard of him. His hits included “Tutti Frutti,” “Long Tall Sally,” “Rip It Up,” and “Lucille,” all released in the 1950s.

He was also one of the first ten inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Although his sexuality was often a hot topic throughout his career, he didn’t come out until much later in life. He described himself as an “omnisexual.”

One Life to Live Appearance

Little Richard wasn’t just involved in the music business. In 1995, he presided over and performed at Bo Buchanan (Robert S. Woods) and Nora Hanen’s (Hillary B. Smith) wedding. In that storyline, the couple nearly called off the wedding. Then, a surprise guest popped up, which happened to be none other than Little Richard.

Two years later, in 1997, Little Richard would make another soap appearance. This time, it was on Y&R. He performed at the wedding of Gloria Simmons (Judith Chapman) and Jeffrey Bardwell (Ted Shackleford).

Y&R and OLTL were not Little Richard’s only appearances. He also landed roles on TV shows and movies such as Let’s Go, Miami Vice, Bustin’ Loose, and Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventures. He was also on hits like Martin, The Late Shift, and many more.
