Canela had to show up for work with an injured ankle. He hurt his ankle the night before his first day at The Young and the Restless. He had a hard time walking and even requested for a wheelchair while waiting for his turn to shoot his scenes. All the people in the set including Mal Young, was shocked to see him in a wheelchair. Their reactions were ‘What the hell? You were fine at the audition!’”
He even recalled that during his first scene, he had to walk five steps up the stairs, which he said was extremely painful for him to do. He said, “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life! But I was just so grateful to be there. I didn’t want to miss it.”
But his injury helped him in a way, the Miami native actor said. Canela said he felt pressured and intimidated since he was working with the likes of Eric Braeden (Victor) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki). His pain took the edge off since all he could think about was finishing up all his scenes, go home, and rest his aching foot.
Plus, he thought everyone was extra nice to him since he was hurt. He also believed that by showing up even though he was injured showed how committed he was. In the end, he realized that everything worked in his favor.

Canela is doing pretty well as Arturo in Young and the Restless. He’s been able to deal with the twist and turns his character has to face. Although he admitted that what his character is capable of always comes as a surprise to him, he tries to find ways to justify his actions. He added that he’s had lots of “Pinch me” moments at Y&R.
Though he still can’t believe that he has found a home in Y&R, he said he continues to enjoy his journey and is very blessed to be a part of Y&R.
