Y&R spoilers suggest that Audra has never been one to talk about her past or allow any vulnerabilities to show.
During the Thursday, January 4th edition of the show, Audra offered Nikki her support around staying sober. She also provided some insight into her own struggles with having an alcoholic dad.

This scene was major on many levels. It showed a softer side to Audra, as fans are used to seeing her emotionless, especially at work.
It also offered a bit of a reason as to why Ms. Charles doesn’t allow herself to fall for men, and possibly why she may be drawn to an older man like Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John).

Most importantly, it highlighted a glimmer of hope that the working relationship between these two ladies could evolve into a friendship.

As with romance, friends generally start “hating each other” in the land of soaps before becoming besties.
Now that Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) has moved on from Kyle, and in many ways, Audra will likely do the same soon, there’s no reason for there to be animosity between Ms. Charles and Ms. Newman.
There’s still the lingering issue of what happened between Audra and Noah Newman (Rory Gibson), but if the exes can get past that, maybe the ladies can too.

It’s hard not to see a potential friendship forming between Audra and Nikki. After all, since Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) passed away, Ms. Newman hasn’t had a bestie to turn to. Could Audra slowly, but surely, step into that role?
