The Young and the Restless: Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland, )Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman)Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) is living in what appears to be the last chapter of her life on ‘The Young and the Restless’. The decision made to bring her home from the memory care facility was compassionate and likely telegraphs the coming end of Adams’ recurring role on Y&R.

Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), Dina’s oldest offspring, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), the middle child, and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland), the baby of the Abbott family, all sat on the living room couch in what was once their parent’s house. They consoled each other and took turns reading the answers Dina wrote in an end-of-life questionnaire at some point in the past.

The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Once Upon A Soapy Time

John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) and Dina seemed to be living an idyllic life in the decade before Y&R debuted. Viewers came to see that the Abbott’s weren’t actually happy in a series of terrific retrospective scenes, that were presented from 2017 through 2019 and included different actors portraying younger versions of these classic characters.

Dina felt that she needed to pursue her own life. So she left her young children in John’s care and moved from Genoa City, Wisconsin. The younger edition of Dina (Cathy Marks) opted to divorce John, and eventually relocate to Paris, France, where she remarried and became Madame Mergeron.

Y&R Spoilers – Fantastic Revival Storyline Continues

Adams was part of Y&R’s cast from 1983, when her character debuted, through 1986. She returned in 1991, 1996, and 2008, for appearances in a handful of episodes.

However, gold was mined when it was decided to create an art based on Dina’s backstory. That began in 2017 and continues through today.

The reintroduction of Adams’ alter ego was fueled by an intriguing tale where Graham Bloodworth (Max Shippee) served as she hired companion and confidant. He and Dina were the only ones aware of her Alzheimer’s diagnosis upon their arrival in GC.

A series of twists had Graham as heir to the fortune Dina amassed in building and then selling the Mergeron conglomerate. Eventually, Graham tried to inject Dina with a lethal serum, she fought him off and injected him instead, which caused his death.

The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Uniquely Memorable Dina Abbott Mergeron

The Abbott’s responded to their mother’s diagnosis in varying ways. Jack was overcome but remained his mother’s stalwart. Ashley, who eventually forgave her mother for revealing that Brent Davis (as last played by Bert Kramer) was her biological father, developed a new admiration for Dina. And Traci, whose childhood memories of Dina were preserved, forgave easily and loved her mother even more.

The unique character of Dina has been fully fleshed out by Adams through what remains a deeply fulfilling arc. For this actor, her colleagues, the writing staff, and all involved others on Y&R to take what was a side character and develop her to this level is truly deserving of high praise.
