Young And The Restless Spoilers: Michelle Stafford Clears The Air About Her Daytime Emmy Speech – Shuts Down “Tears” Controversy

Young and the Restless (Y&R) fans were over the moon when Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers) recently snagged the Daytime Emmy for the Lead Actress category. Her speech was amazing; however, some got the wrong idea when it came to the part where she thanked Josh Griffith, Y&R Head Writer and Executive Producer, for all the tears she shed in his office.

Some believed Stafford was crying over a storyline, but Michelle recently cleared up this controversy in a social media post.

Y&R spoilers indicate that Stafford won the Daytime Emmy for Red’s meltdown storyline where she faked her own death to gain revenge on Diane Abbott (Susan Walters).

The actress hopped on Instagram and noted that she generally doesn’t care about what people think but wanted to explain the “crying” comment she made in her Daytime Emmy speech.

She states the reason for the “tears” sentiment was because she, “… lost a parent recently. It was devastating. But you must carry on with life. You go to work. You take care of your kids … And life does in fact move on.”

Stafford notes in her IG post that about ten days after the news hit about her loss, she met with Griffin for a meeting that had already been organized.

She stated she had some questions about her storyline but struggled with her emotions whenever Phyllis’s relationship with her children arose.

In her Instagram post, she states, “Have you ever been there? After a loss you move on and you’re fine but then maybe you’re talking to, I don’t know, a co-worker or you see something at the market and something triggers some memory and you fall apart? The more you try to stop it the worse it gets.”

Y&R Spoilers – Josh Griffith’s Response

Stafford admitted to feeling embarrassed over the tears in the meeting and apologized, but thankfully, Griffith was compassionate about her situation.

She goes on in the IG post to say, “What I said on stage was a spontaneous comment to my boss who did something very kind for me. Very human for me. My wish for others is that one day they actually experience a working environment that’s similar.”

Grief is a hard thing to go through, but knowing you have support from family, friends, and your place of employment makes the process that much easier!
