Young And The Restless Spoilers: Michelle Stafford Teases Y&R Return

The original Phyllis Summers, Michelle Stafford, is back on “The Young and the Restless” this week, and the actress shared a few details about her return to the CBS soap.

In an interview with Extra, Michelle said that she is happy to be back, and while she’s been away for around six years, it feels like nothing has changed on “The Young and the Restless.” “I think it’s something here at CBS Television City that makes people just ageless. I’m staying,” she added.

Stafford originated the role of Phyllis in 1994, and playing it has earned her nine Daytime Emmy Award nominations. She won one for outstanding support actress and one for lead actress category. “The character was always fun,” Michelle said.

A lot has happened to Phyllis since Michelle left in 2013 and Gina Tognoni took over the role. So Michelle said she watched as many episodes as she can and did a lot of research on what has happened to Phyllis over the years. She teased that upon her return, “Phyllis is really kind of controlling her life again… and possibly the town. I’m just gonna leave it at that.”

While she was away from “Young and Restless,” Stafford was busy portraying Nina Reeves on “General Hospital.” She said that it was fun playing Nina too, and that everyone at GH “is so lovely.” They are also supportive of her returning to Y&R to reclaim Phyllis. Meanwhile, Nina Reeves has been recast, with Cynthia Watros taking over the character.

Phyllis has lost a lot in recent months, especially with the conclusion on the J.T.’s (Thad Luckinbill) murder case. Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) was furious when he found out the truth and her involvement, and he dumped her.

When Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) returned, they made a deal that will enable Phyllis to take revenge. She was abducted by Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart), though, derailing their plans. But she escaped and now, she’s in Vegas, and she’s finding details about Adam. We can’t predict what Phyllis’ next move would be, but she is surely heading back in town with new revenge plots.

      There have only ever been 3 women who played Phyllis:
      1) Michelle Stafford was the first and the longest-running;
      2) Sandra Nelson (?) was the 2nd, and was only truly a fill-in not an actual recast, it was only for while Michelle had some medical issues, then Michelle came right back – Sandra was very good, tho! – and then for the last half-decade it was
      3) Gina Tognoni… I’ve always liked Gina as Kelly Cramer in OLTL, but didn’t like her as Phyllis INITIALLY… But then she really made it her own, and I loved her in it! She’s a great actress, too, and it was well written, which is why she won Emmy’s for her portrayal, so as much as I always loved Michelle in the role, I was sad to see Gina go… But it’s show-biz, it’s the nature of the beast, which is very very cold. Michelle chose to vacate the role, so just because she was leaving GH, did Y&R have to dump her award-winning replacement?! I thought that was brutally cold. But I know I will love Michelle in the role again, she’s a great actress and the role is a great one, very well-written… I’ll enjoy seeing what she gets up to next as Phyllis on the show… She/the character, mixes well with all the cast…

      Do you mean you want the “last” Phyllis back, played by Gina? Cuz Michelle IS the “old Phyllis” – she’s the original!

    The first scenes with Michelle as Phyllis are horrible!!
    Bring back Gina!!
    What are they thinking?! STOP already bringing back previous actors that left. At least Mal was moving forward and not trying to resurrect the past.

    You betcha. Nobody can play Phyllis like Michelle can. I was so happy to see her back. Gina didn’t do it for me. It was only in the last year I finally was starting to accept her as Phyllis and now they’ve gone and messed me up.
