“It’s overwhelming to her that everything she’s been through didn’t help,” says the actress. “she’s not feeling good about the future and what steps might have to be taken now.” Specifically, Sharon is worried that she may have to undergo a mastectomy.

After learning of the tests, Mariah and Faith come home and see that Sharon is crying. Eventually, she is able to discuss the situation with them and each daughter has a way of trying to help Sharon. For Faith, that means suggesting new or different drugs.

Sharon must tell Faith that the drugs she was given were the best chance they had, and it’s time to move on with other treatment options.

What this means is that Sharon is now facing the prospect of surgery. According to Case, Sharon may be presented with the option of a lumpectomy or a mastectomy, but without a guarantee that either will be life-saving in the end.

“This isn’t just wearing on Sharon,” she says, “but everybody else. Right now she’s caught in this limbo and wishes she could just get on with her life.”

Sharon does have a strong support team, including her children and boyfriend, Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) who has been by her side every step of the way.
