Phyllis (as then played by the departing Gina Tognoni, a great actor in her own right) was kidnapped by Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart). He had no beef with Phyllis, but thought that she was Adam Newman’s (Mark Grossman) girlfriend. Stopping right there, or rather forcefully halting, underscores why Phyllis is experiencing so many problems upon her return to town.
After alienating family members and few friends, Phyllis thought she would be able to reignite her life. Yet earlier efforts since Red escaped from Kevin’s dungeon, took a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, and subsequently returned haven’t been good.
Phyllis recently told Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), after he called her out, that she wasn’t Adam’s girlfriend and is actually working to stop him. It seems like Y&R may be writing Kevin to an apology pairing with Phyllis in this regard, as he implied to Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc) that he’s going to get out from under Adam’s thumb by bringing him down.
On the family front, Phyllis has been unable to connect with Summer Newman (Hunter King). She feels betrayed by her mom and is still off-balance because of her failed, eye blink marriage to Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor). Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) wants nothing to do with Summer’s mother and the lady he was living with until a handful of months ago. Again, that goes to the Adam connection.

Michael and Lauren Fenmore (Tracey Bregman), easily Phyllis’ two best friends, were riled by Phyllis before she was kidnapped. Lauren, in particular, couldn’t believe that she was trying to steal from Jabot, which is Fenmore’s business partner.
Getting into recently with Christine Williams (Lauralee Bell) isn’t smart. With Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) still serving as the Chief of Police, Phyllis’ aim to prod Cricket is misguided.
Phyllis may be able to stop Adam, with or without Kevin’s help. But even if she does there’s no certainty that everyone who she wants to impress will care. Thwarting a villain won’t serve to instantly restore trust. So Phyllis, as again played by the ever-stellar Stafford, needs to prepare for a long road back into the hearts of the small number of people who care for her, or at least did at one time.
