Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott) was first cast on ‘The Young and the Restless’ in 1989. He replaced Terry Lester (Jack), who played the edition of this character (1980-1989). Bergman went on to earn three Daytime Emmy Awards (1991, 1992, 2002) as the Outstanding Lead Actor in the drama series category.
Within the last few years, Jack was sent on misguided journey, where he initially believed John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) wasn’t his father. By the end of that arc, Jack’s place in the family was fully affirmed.
But the relationship Jack had with his mother became a masterfully reimagined and still developing storyline that enables Dina Mergeron’s (Marla Adams) story to be retold. That, along with the solid bond Jack reestablished with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), the healing of differences with Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), and a decision to step away from Jabot, provides plenty of plot for Bergman to work.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Mining The Past For More Gold
Jack has often had a lady to be with. Some of those relationships weren’t stable and none of them endured.
His arguably purest love was the late Luann Volien Abbott (Elizabeth Sung), who had his first child. Like his mother, Keemo Abbott (Philip Moon) hasn’t been seen since 1996. It would be great if Y&R revisited this tender portion of Jack’s backstory.
Alternatively, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), who gave birth to Jack’s other son, John Abbott III (a never cast role), who died shortly after birth, and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) are in town. ‘Niktor’ is solid, but Phyllis is free and looking for a man. Might ‘Phack’, which represented two marriages for Jack, be tried again?
Y&R Spoilers – An Infamous Dual Role Reprised?
Bergman’s masterful turn as Marco Annicelli lingers in the minds of daytime fans. It was, without question, a chilling arc that allowed viewers to see Bergman evidence a darker side than any Jack had ever evidenced, even during the infamous scene where he stepped over the presumed dead carcass of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) in the Colonnade Room all those soapy years ago.
Imagine a scenario where a seeming Marco, who had one of his hearing organs cut off by Victor’s enforcers, returns. Yes, it wouldn’t be one-eared Marco, the Peruvian drug lord who’d escaped from jail and is back to exact revenge. Instead it would be Marco’s twin.
Not one doppelganger, but two? Oh, yes!
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Moving Beyond Jabot
Jack’s request was accepted by Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland). Together, they’ve begun documenting the Abbott’s history.
In deciding to step back from Jabot, Kyle has become Jack’s chosen family member to lead the business. Mealor’s character, along with Lauren Fenmore (Tracey Bregman), will now head the combined Jabot and Fenmore operation.
With that, Jack could focus mostly on the book venture with his sister. So, a series of new adventures could unfold which allow Jack to help the audience explore further moments in his family’s history.
