Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Doug Davidson's Return To Y&R – Paul Plays Hero, or Villain In J.T. Storyline Finale?Read between the script lines on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Paul’s (Doug Davidson) oddly unexplained disappearance is about to end, which must mean that the end of the J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) storyline will soon happen.

Eric Braeden’s (Victor) triumphant tweet publicly announced the return of Y&R’s second-longest tenured actor, with Davidson (employed since 1978) ranking only behind Kate Linder (who’s played Esther since the show’s first year, 1973).

As Y&R fans recall, Paul simply disappeared from Genoa City shortly after Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) debuted as a character. In what seemed like former executive producer and head writer Mal Young’s call, Vilasuso seemingly supplanted Davidson as the lead police presence.

Davidson later announced that he’d been dropped to recurring status in January 2018 and then was going off-contract. However, the actor’s photo has remained on Y&R’s online cast list ever since. So longtime soap fans sensed that he would be returning at some point and now has.

It would be easy to think that Chief of Police Williams is shown one day in his office, wherever that’s been relocated to in the reconfigured GC Police Department office. Some mention is made of his having been away on a case, or some such soapy thing. Possibly, Christine (Lauralee Bell) is written into that scene to make it all the more digestible.

But what if Paul isn’t being written back as the man everyone always knew? Yet, another scenario is possible.

Fans of this great actor will be likely be stunned if Y&R opts to make Paul Victor’s framer, including having installed a surveillance system at the Ranch, and maybe even having been Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) tormentor all along. If that dark reveal happens, Paul wouldn’t be around long as he would certainly have to be arrested, or face a worse fate.

Here’s hoping that Davidson’s iconic character is restored to his regular role. Ideally, Paul comes back, handles matters in a manner that allows all involved characters to have their fates addressed in a believable manner. Many fans want Paul to help end this arc.
