It’s been teased for awhile on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Now, ‘Shadam’ has its first official look at a reboot this week.

Writing Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) back to the recast Adam Newman (Justin Hartley) wasn’t possible during the mid part of this decade. That’s when Hartley took over for Michael Muhney and Adam was all about Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan).

In 2019, Mark Grossman (Adam) is Y&R’s most notorious villain. The plot that surrounds him is also vastly different that what it was in September 2016, when the character was written out.

With Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) recent aid of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) snarky labels, like the ‘Black Knight’, aren’t current. Instead, Victor’s me-first son, Adam, assumes the tag as Y&R’s resident bad guy.

As Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) pointed out a few weeks ago to Sharon, she’s seemingly drawn to Adam’s dark personality. Case’s character didn’t openly deny what her original true love said, which was fully telling.

Sure, Sharon feels an obligation to Adam for having saved her from the fire that she set at the original Newman Ranch main house all those years ago. Plus, she’s indebted to him for having helped her get the mental health treatment that led to her bipolar diagnosis. But Sharon’s also clearly drawn to the danger Adam represents.

The reference to the business Chelsea once founded is also a wink to what Adam wanted. He understandably believed that Chelsea would reconcile with him, upon learning that he’d survived the cabin blast, and that they would continue raising their child, Connor Newman (as most recently played by Gunner and Ryder Gadbois).

Adam was wrong and that’s made him very angry. Thus his turn to Sharon, makes total daytime sense.

As to why Sharon would allow herself to be drawn back to the man who’s clearly troubled and is creating trouble is perplexing. If she was alone, the choice might be somewhat explainable. But to spurn Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) doesn’t make logical sense.

Some residents in GG are simply not a good mix. Reestablishing Sharon and Adam spells danger for both people, but most especially Sharon.

Her enabling of his behavior will allow him to go unchecked, whereas Chelsea proved to a calming influence. Sharon is mostly the opposite. While she’ll challenge Adam with questions, Sharon often becomes his defender.

The Christian Newman custody case already is demonstrating who’s willing to stand up to Adam and who wants to enable him. Chelsea is siding with Nick. Sharon sees Adam’s point of view and will come to defend his methods.

While one cavort won’t make them an instant couple. A sequel to ‘Shadam’ now appears likely.
