TV and Soaps Halt Production
All four soap operas were forced to halt production when coronavirus infections spread like wildfire. Los Angeles continues to be hit pretty hard and the stay-at-home order was extended to at least May 15.
That means filming will not resume until then, but there are other tasks to be complete between the end of filming and when an episode is ready to be aired on TV. Editing is only one of those duties.
Y&R and B&B: Smart Soap Strategy
Both CBS’s soap operas have run out of new episodes, but the network always has a strategy put in place. Instead of random reruns airing or replacing the soaps with other TV shows, they came up with something special.
Daytime Talent Manager Michael Bruno (I Want To Be a Soap Star, SOAPnet) thinks this was a wise decision. He explained that while the soaps aren’t airing, viewers need a reason to watch. He also provided this insight,
“This way, people can tune in and remember these classic episodes. The fans who saw them for the first time will love seeing them again. And newer viewers will gain insights. These re-broadcasts are going to deepen the sense of the storytelling being done in the present.”
The Bold and the Beautiful: Monte Carlo and Cast Commentary
Beginning Friday, April 24, fans will get to revisit scenes filmed on location in Monte Carlo. Those episodes feature Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks), and other characters.
The Monte Carlo scenes are part of B&B’s first “theme week.” A lot of fans are looking forward to seeing memorable storylines. In addition to a weekly theme and on-location sets, there will be “fresh commentary” at the beginning and end of each episode. It will be interesting to find out what the actors have to say about those particular episodes years after they first aired.
The Young and the Restless: 1996 Nevis Honeymoon
On April 24, fans will relive Christine Blair (Lauralee Bell) and Paul Williams’ (Doug Davidson) honeymoon in Nevis. The storyline originally aired in 1996 and the honeymoon scenes included Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford).
As for the rest of the time that filming is suspending, Y&R fans can expect more classic episodes to air. However, the network hasn’t explained if they are following a certain theme or what strategy they are using to select which older episodes to air. However, we are sure that the network will give some sort of description of what to expect in the upcoming week.
