Y&R Day Ahead Recap Wednesday, September 30: Nick’s Deadly Threat, Marie Overdoses Again & Victoria-Kyle Affair Gets Riskier

The Young and The Restless day ahead recap for Wednesday, September 30 reveals Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) had an awkward chat, and Marie Kirkland (Jade Harlow) overdosed again. Plus, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) threw out his old drug dealer.

Kyle’s Awkward Chat

At Society, Kyle encounters Victoria and Claire Newman (Amelia Heinle, Hayley Erin), engaging in brief, somewhat uncomfortable exchanges with Claire while Victoria remains silent.

When Claire invites Kyle to join them, the tension intensifies. Victoria downplays her discomfort, Kyle hesitates about intruding, but Claire persists, eager to share something.

She reveals that Harrison Abbott (Redding Munsell) sent her a message about selecting a gift; Kyle confirms he’s seen it but withholds details. They plan a visit, and Claire displays a photo Harrison sent from a pig and goat farm.

Kyle Tells About Harrison Wanting To Bring An Animal Home

Kyle mentions Harrison’s attempt to bring an animal home. He notes Harrison is Claire’s devoted supporter, and she calls him her little buddy.

A text from Holden Novak (Nathan Owens), newly arrived in Genoa City, prompts Claire to leave and call him, while Victoria finishes her tea.

Alone, Kyle apologizes for the interruption; Victoria counters that avoiding him would’ve been stranger-she acknowledges their peculiar dynamic, Kyle being Claire’s ex and notes their private relationship is solid but public interactions feel awkward.

Victoria frames it as their fun secret; Kyle concurs; she emphasizes Claire isn’t insignificant and asks if he wants to discuss it.

Victoria Wants A Stronger Drink

Victoria asks for a stronger drink to discuss Claire with Kyle, though she says she has no regrets about their involvement; Kyle admits he cared deeply for Claire before but insists he doesn’t think of her when he’s with Victoria.

Both reject characterizing their relationship as emotional or romantic-it’s purely physical attraction. Kyle notes it’s complicated but hasn’t created doubt about their new involvement.

When Kyle proposes disclosure, Victoria dismisses it as unhelpful. Kyle suggests it might ease guilt, but Victoria questions whether she feels guilty enough, viewing their affair as private-Kyle accepts this reasoning.

Kyle Finds The Affair Thrilling

Kyle finds the affair itself thrilling. Victoria enjoys secret meeting texts and the capture risk’s appeal, though she warns getting caught would be catastrophic.

Kyle recommends changing their phone contact names for safety. Victoria chooses “Natasha” as her code name; Kyle assumes it references The Avengers’ Black Widow, asking if he’s Hawkeye.

Victoria clarifies she means Natasha from Bullwinkle, making Kyle Boris instead; Victoria prefers Boris as less conspicuous than Hawkeye.

Kyle And Victoria Change Their Phone Names

They update their contact information in their phones, and Victoria proposes that they carve out some quality time for themselves right now. Kyle is eager to leave, but then Victoria’s phone buzzes with an incoming call.

It’s Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) on the line-Nikki requests that Victoria come by the house for an important family gathering, mentioning that they have some significant news to discuss with Nick; Victoria confirms she’ll be there shortly.

Kyle assures her he’ll get in touch later, acknowledging that family obligations take priority. He requests that she send him a message once it’s over-she responds with a playful tone, saying, “Keep your phone on, Boris.”

Victor Arrives Home Late

Victor Newman (Eric Braeden)  arrives home late to find Nikki working on her tablet, focused on the Vibrante launch. Though excited by her dedication, Victor encourages her to take a break and avoid burnout.

This leads him to mention Nick’s return to work, which is very recent. Nikki acknowledges Nick is progressing well but emphasizes that early post-rehab weeks are critical and unpredictable. Victor reflects on his past hopes during Nikki’s own rehab stays.

Nikki Hopes Nick’s Recovery Will Be Smoother Than Hers

Nikki expresses hope that Nick’s recovery will be smoother than hers and stresses the importance of family and friend support.

Victor grows concerned that Nikki is steering toward Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) as Nick’s sponsor-Nikki clarifies it’s Nick’s choice. Victor counters that sponsors require at least one year of sobriety, which Jack lacks.

Nikki defends Jack, noting his yacht incident shouldn’t count since Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) involuntarily dosed him; she insists their involvement in Nick’s sponsor selection is inappropriate.

Victor concedes Nick needs sponsorship support but urges Nikki to help ensure anyone but Jack fills that role.

Marie Overdosed Again

Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) enters and apologizes for the interruption, then delivers urgent news: Nick’s acquaintance Marie has been discovered unconscious at the motel where she previously overdosed.

Nick wasn’t present, and she’s now hospitalized-Adam expresses concern about Nick’s reaction. Victor inquires whether it was a drug overdose; Adam confirms it-Nikki is relieved Marie survived, noting Nick’s devastation would be worse if she hadn’t.

Victor is grateful Marie didn’t pull Nick back into substance use, and when Nikki asks about notifying Marie’s family, Adam reveals her husband is deceased and she has no other relatives.

Adam worries Nick could learn this news from various sources; Victor concludes the family should inform Nick directly before he hears it elsewhere.

Nick Talks To Esther At Crimson Lights

Nick arrives and encounters Esther Valentine (Kate Linder) at the counter. He playfully remarks that he knows all the attractive people in town, and Esther warmly welcomes him home, mentioning he’s been missed.

When Nick jokingly questions whether her boss approves of her flirting with customers, Esther asks if he’ll report her-he assures her his lips are sealed.

After Esther directs him to a table and promises his usual order, Nick spots an unwelcome face: his former drug dealer. Nick confronts him aggressively, demanding an explanation for his presence.

Nick Throws His Old Drug Dealer Out

Nick reminds the man of his previous warning to stay away, but the dealer claims he’s simply buying coffee; Nick refuses to tolerate his presence.

The dealer expresses a desire to reconnect, but Nick insists they have nothing to discuss since he’s now sober. When the dealer mentions recently seeing Nick’s friend Marie, Nick dismisses this as a lie, asserting Marie has left Genoa City.

The dealer shrugs off Nick’s denial, infuriating him further; Nick orders the man to leave, shoves him toward the exit, and warns him to stay away from his family-including Marie.

Nick pursues him outside, pushing him along the sidewalk while shouting never to return.

Nick’s Behavior Draws Esther And Sharon’s Attention

Upon returning indoors, Nick’s behavior draws attention from Esther and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case). Sharon approaches as Nick requests a moment to compose himself.

She leads him to the patio, where he continues asking for space to breathe and pleads with her to stop staring.

Sharon encourages him to take a breath and inquires about what occurred; Nick reveals he’d previously warned the man to leave and confesses to having purchased pills from him.

Sharon points out that people don’t always comply and notes they must learn to navigate their triggers.

Nick Wants To Know Who “We” Refers To

Nick questions who “we” refers to and mockingly asks if Sharon also struggles with substance abuse-she clarifies she’s attempting to assist, but Nick insists she stop acting as his therapist.

Sharon counters that she’s his friend, though Nick remains agitated. He’s upset that Sharon apparently believes this encounter will push him back toward drug use.

Esther emerges with decaffeinated tea and gently offers it to Nick, hoping it will help him relax. Nick accepts and apologizes for his outburst; after Esther returns inside, Nick apologizes to Sharon for losing his composure when he saw the man.

Sharon And Nick Continue To Talk About This Incident

Sharon observes that Nick has always been prone to anger-Nick reveals he knows the dealer as Joe;  Sharon recommends Nick contact Jack instead.

Nick discloses he’s already spoken with Jack, who has offered his support. Nick confesses his desire to eliminate Joe permanently to prevent others from suffering his fate-Nick mentions Joe claimed to have seen Marie.

Sharon expresses surprise, recalling Marie had left town, and Nick agrees that was his understanding. Sharon speculates Marie may have deceived Nick to spare him worry.

Sharon Thinks Joe Was Trying To Provoke Nick

Sharon theorizes Joe was attempting to provoke Nick into seeking drugs for relief; Nick acknowledges this possibility. Sharon emphasizes this is precisely why she encouraged Nick to examine his emotions, urging him to remain committed to his recovery program.

Nick receives a call from Adam requesting his presence at the ranch, mentioning the family has news but refusing further details. Nick questions whether it concerns Matt Clark (Roger Howarth), though Adam declines to clarify.

Kyle Arrives At His And Victoria’s Love Nest

Kyle arrives at his prepared apartment for his meeting with Victoria and fixes himself a drink-he paces restlessly, sighing frequently.

While nursing his drink, Kyle anxiously monitors his phone, clearly anticipating Victoria’s message. He recalls their first encounter here, when they played Strip Have You Ever. Kyle reflects that securing this apartment ranks among his best decisions.

His phone finally buzzes with a text from Victoria postponing their plans. Kyle feels let down.

Sharon And Esther Talk

Sharon visits Esther to talk;  Sharon checks if the other customers are doing well, and Esther confirms Nick disrupted things but she’s restored the atmosphere.

Esther offers to listen if Sharon needs to discuss anything, while respecting Nick’s privacy. Sharon notes the situation is likely already known, and Esther mentions her training as an alcohol abuse counselor-Sharon had forgotten this detail.

 Esther reminds Sharon to prioritize her own wellbeing, understanding how difficult it is watching someone you care about struggle.

Sharon appreciates having Esther’s support and remarks that Genoa City is fortunate to have her; Esther assures Sharon that Nick will recover, largely because of Sharon’s presence in his life.

The Newmans Await Nick

Victor, Nikki, Victoria, and Adam gather in the living room awaiting Nick’s arrival; Victoria inquires whether Marie is hospitalized, and Adam confirms she is.

When Victoria asks about her prognosis, Adam indicates it remains uncertain- Victoria expresses concern that this news might overwhelm Nick. Nikki counters that Marie is Nick’s friend, and he’d be more distressed learning this from someone else.

Victor emphasizes that withholding the information would be unkind, given Nick’s connection with Marie. Nikki adds that hearing it from family allows them to provide support.

Adam Worries About Jeopardizing Nick’s Sobriety

Adam worries the news could jeopardize Nick’s sobriety- Nick arrives to find the entire family assembled.

He assumes it’s an intervention and insists he hasn’t relapsed;  Victor assures him they believe him but have urgent information to share.

Adam reveals that Marie was discovered at the motel where she’d stayed with Nick after overdosing again. Nick struggles to accept this, having believed she’d left town.

He asks if she’s deceased; Adam denies it but confirms she remains unconscious in the hospital- Nick is bewildered.

Nikki Expresses Support And Requests Space

Nikki expresses that everyone wanted to be present to support him upon learning the news; Nick appreciates her sentiment but insists he doesn’t require anyone’s assistance.

He states he must leave to process independently, though Victor gently recommends staying at the ranch. Nick rejects this, explaining he needs to visit the hospital to be with his friend and intends to bring her family there.

Adam tells Nick that Marie has no family; Nick struggles with this revelation, but Adam confirms his top reporter verified she’s entirely alone-Nick is stunned by her solitude as the family tries to console him.

Outside, Nick mutters, “Damn you, Joe. You are a dead man.”
