Billy Bob Thornton Reveals The Source Of Taylor Sheridan’s Wild Success

Taylor Sheridan is proving that he is the big boss with every new show he creates. When he’s not speeding through scripts for the Zoé Saldana-led ‘Special Ops: Lioness’ – which, believe it or not, he works on solo, like no writer’s room needed – he’s rounding up ‘Yellowstone,’ overseeing its spinoff ‘The Madison’ and even creating a “human” show that matches Billy Bob Thornton’s character. Sheridan is eating a lot of Paramount’s money, but you can’t say he doesn’t deliver.

Billy Bob Thornton Reveals He And Taylor Sheridan Have A Lot In Common

I genuinely think that Taylor Sheridan is the Taylor Swift of the TV show world due to how fast he turns out TV shows at breakneck speed.

Billy Bob Thornton Reveals The Source Of Taylor Sheridan's Wild Success

For his latest project, he sought to recruit Billy Bob Thornton, who says he and the scriptwriter share a lot in common.

The newest series ‘Landmine’ sees Thornton star as the leading man in the world of the Texas oil business.

Thornton’s character Tommy Norris is a crisis executive at an oil company. Prior to taking the lead spot, he had played a minor role in Sheridan’s ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff ‘1883.’

“I went to the [1883] premiere in Las Vegas, and after that we had a dinner and Taylor sat next to me and he said, ‘Listen, I’ve got a thing I’m going to write around you. It’s called Landman, it takes place in the oil business, and I’m going to write it in your voice because I think I’ve known you long enough now to write in your voice,’” Thornton told The Hollywood Reporter of the first time he and Sheridan discussed idea for the show.

Speaking of the reaction to the script, which premiered on Tuesday, he recalled, “And when I read the first script I was like, ‘Wow, you did, didn’t you?’ Because I read it and was like, ‘Yeah, that’s kind of me if I were a landman.’ So, it was pretty awesome.”

Billy Bob Thornton On Why Audiences Identify With Taylor Sheridan’s Shows

Thornton and Sheridan’s collaboration was a “very easy” one since he and the ‘Yellowstone’ creator were similar in so many ways.

As for why Sheridan’s TV shows keep succeeding and finding a massive audience, he said, “People are hungry for human stories,” Thornton said. “These days in the theaters, it’s mainly event movies and superhero things and animated stuff and all that; there are a few human stories to come through. But these things are like a 10-hour movie that explore human beings. And I think people are hungry for that and I think that’s why they relate to Taylor’s stuff.”
