Blue Bloods Spoilers – Sid Gormley Is One Of Frank Reagan’s Right Hand Men

Blue Bloods viewers know that Sid Gormley is one of New York Police Department Commissioner Frank Reagan’s (Tom Selleck) right hand men. Commissioner Reagan’s whole team and their titles consists of Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, Garrett Moore (Gregory Jbara), Primary Aide to the Commissioner, Abigail Baker (Abigail Hawk), and Special Assistant to the Commissioner, Sid Gormley .

Sid also was the boss of Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) at one time, before his promotion to Special Assistant to the Commissioner. Sid, as Frank and Danny, was a member of the New York Police Department and went up through the ranks as a cop. Garrett usually advises Frank on issues that may make the department look good or bad to the civilian public, while Baker tends to serve as a balance between the two, Garrett and Gormley.

Lieutenant Sid Gormley has appeared on Blue Bloods since the very first season, and he first appeared in his current role as Special Assistant to the Commissioner in the second episode of the first season. In the current season, season eleven, Gormley had gone through some rather difficult times. For instance, in the episode “For Whom The Bell Tolls” Frank talked to Garrett and Baker about Gormley’s behavior, having noticed he was acting differently.

They tried to convince him to talk to a therapist about it, but he was totally against it. Later he showed up to work with an arm injury, and he doesn’t want to go home because apparently he’s not getting along with his wife, who is at home. Later it was revealed he’s been mourning a partner on the job of many years who had passed away. In the most recent episode, “Guardian Angels”, Frank was pressured by the mayor over Sid’s controversial work record as a cop, trying to get him to fire Sid. He didn’t.

As for Robert Clohessy, he is no stranger to crime dramas; his first recurring primetime role was as Officer Patrick Flaherty on the iconic crime drama “Hill Street Blues”. He was on for a year, then left in 1987. He played another cop in a show called “Ohara” which ran from 1987 to 1988. It was a crime drama about a wise, elderly, Asian-American Los Angeles Police Department cop, played by Pat Morita of “Happy Days” fame, investigating crimes with his culturally insensitive and thickheaded but overall good-natured younger partner, Lt. George Shaver, played by Clohessy.

He stayed in cop roles mostly after that, playing an honest correctional officer named Sean Murphy on “Oz”, where he stayed from 1999 to 2003. After it went off the air he played various smaller parts, including a short stint in daytime soaps as Gil on the legendary soap “The Guiding Light” for six episodes in the year 2000. Clohessy also appeared as James Patrick “Jim” Neary on the HBO drama “Boardwalk Empire” as an Atlantic City politician. He played Jim until 2011 when he joined Blue Bloods as Sid Gormley.
