Blue Bloods Spoilers – The Two Onscreen Partners Have Worked Together For Eight Years
Longtime viewers of Blue Bloods will remember that the two onscreen partners have worked together for eight years now. Marisa Ramirez plays Detective Maria Baez, while Donnie Wahlberg plays Detective Danny Reagan. Being together filming scenes the majority of their non-home time can create close bonds between actors, as well as unmistakable onscreen chemistry. Marisa told PopCulture in a recent interview how welcoming Donnie was when she first came onto the Blue Bloods canvas, and how much his mentoring helped her fit in.
Marisa came on as Detective Baez partway through season three, having been the replacement for Jennifer Esposito, who had just vacated the role of Jackie Curatola. Marisa has never experienced a fellow actor being willing to mentor her and to make her truly part of the on-set “family” as Donnie did. He is a very people friendly guy, having spoken out himself about how he missed forming many close friendships at work because of Blue Bloods’ large cast, only seeing some co-workers every so often.
At first, Marisa didn’t think that she would be anything but a recurring character, and a short-term one at that. But she kept being asked back time after time, and soon became a main star of the show. It was at that point that she moved from California to New York, where Blue Bloods is filmed, full time.
Blue Bloods Spoilers – Marisa Ramirez Did Not Have Friendships With Fellow Actors Until Blue Bloods
Marisa says she did not have friendships off screen with fellow actors until Blue Bloods, and the relationship she and Donnie and his family have built is unlike anything she has ever experienced. There simply was never an opportunity to do so, with only having short-term appearances, recurring roles, and if not that, the roles she had of any length were on shows that didn’t last very many seasons.
She has also gained a friendship with Vanessa Ray, who plays Officer Eddie Janko-Reagan, who came on board Blue Bloods approximately the same time that Marisa did. Marisa spoke of her previous roles as three years recurring with one person in a show, or three months with another person in another show, but now she’s been on Blue Bloods in many scenes in particular with Donnie, and their relationship has just kept evolving.
They also have a close bond off screen, and she thinks that might have something to do with the pandemic and keeping in touch with one another outside of work. She describes it as a beautiful thing, especially considering she has heard so many horror stories.
There are pairs who while acting out a close relationship onscreen, in reality, they hate each other! But Donnie and she just love each other as people, whether they are at work or not. She feels safe with him and the Blue Bloods crew even though has had to keep her guard up around others in the past. She addresses fans’ questions about any potential romance between Baez and Reagan by saying she isn’t sure anything like that is in the works, or ever would be, even though Baez is a part of Reagan’s extended family; just like she is of Donnie’s in real life. It certainly translates on screen!
